attacked me and caught me off guard, but he
didn’t.
    “Elijah
is bad news. He is the only known vampire that can control werewolf packs. The
birth of these children can change that; which is why he wants them. Not quite
sure what he will do with them, but I can imagine it won’t be good. That is why
Maggie insisted that you leave,” he said as he continued to glance in his
rearview mirror like he thought someone was following us.
    “Obviously
it didn’t work because they found us,” I said annoyed.
    He
shook his head. “That wolf got lucky. He was probably at the truck stop when he
spotted you. We will just have to be more careful.”
    I
closed my eyes and leaned back against the seat. I really didn’t know how much
more careful I could be. I was already running for my life. “This is getting
ridiculous. Maybe I should give up and take your suggestion.”
    “No,
it’s too late. They are calling for your death because even if these babies die
you can still have more. They can’t have that so either way they want you
dead,” he said quietly.
    “What
happens when they are born? They won’t be able to have a life. What will we do
hide for their entire lives?” I asked angrily. Every way I looked at the
situation ti seemed impossible.
    “If
that’s what it takes. Maggie is working on finding a pack that will take you
and the children in once they are born. She isn’t sure if Dominic or Brayden’s
pack is capable of handling the situation. She thinks that if we can keep them
safe until they are born, then the packs will feel differently. There is
nothing we can do about the vampires. Having Micah on our side is a plus, but
he is no match for Elijah,” he said quietly.
    I
didn’t know what to say. He was basically saying we would never have a normal
life because of Elijah. I had never heard of Elijah before; then again I was
young and I never got involved in the politics of the pack. “We should talk to
Elijah,” I said softly. I was thinking out loud more than anything and it kind
of came out.
    I
could tell by his horrified expression it was a mistake to even suggest. “No!
Hell no! Have you lost your fucking mind?”
    “I
am trying to come up with a plan. Running is not a plan. Maybe Elijah can be
reasoned with. If we tell him I am no threat to him then maybe he will call off
the hunt,” I said trying to reason with him.
    “Elijah
cannot be reasoned with. He doesn’t look at werewolves like they are equals. He
looks at us like we are slaves and that is exactly what he will use you and
them for. It is a stupid idea and you better stop talking about it,” he
growled.
    I
crossed my arms and slouched down in my seat. He was being guided by fear like
the rest of them. I kind of wondered where Elijah even was. It wasn’t like I
could just ask around until I found him.
    The
area we were in was dark. We were surrounded by trees and there were no lights
indicating life anywhere. Up ahead a figure darted out into the middle of the
road and stopped. It was the wolf from the truck stop. “Damon stop,” I said
quickly.
    “No,
he will kill you if he gets the chance,” Damon growled and pressed the gas
pedal down further.
    “He
didn’t try to hurt me,” I argued getting angry. His plan was just to run him
over, and not look back. He didn’t even look at me he just pressed the gas
pedal down. “Damon!” I yelled as we got closer. When he didn’t respond I knew I
had to do something. I reached over and grabbed the steering wheel. I jerked it
hard to the left barely avoiding hitting the wolf. Damon cussed as the car
swerved. The sound of crunching medal and breaking glass filled the air; then
everything went black.

    I
heard whispering voices so I opened my eyes. I was in a bed. The blankets were
warm and soft. I slowly sat up and looked around. I wasn’t in a normal room, it
looked like the room of an RV or camper. A man was standing at the edge of the
bed. He had long black hair, tanned skin, and
