âLooking for this?â
Bluâs eyes narrowed. He knew what Tiago was doing. He was throwing down a challenge.
âBring it,â Blu said.
Tiago passed the blueberry to his father.
Blu pulled off some fancy footwork. âItâs down to the final minutes. Heâs got magic in his feet. He shoots!â He popped the berry into the air and did a bicycle kick, catapulting it into the pancake batter. âHe scores!â
â Goallllllll ! â he and Bia shouted together. Blu did a celebratory dance.
Getting into the spirit, Tiago lined the rest of the blueberries up, took aim, and began kicking them to Blu. âHeads up, Dad!â
Blu could handle one berry. But this was too much. Blueberries flew at him left and right. He tried to kick them all into the pancakes, but instead, he tripped and fell, sending a pancake flying across the room. Splat! It hit the wall next to the window. The window where Jewel sat, looking less than amused. She blinked three times.
âUh-oh. The three blink,â Bia said. âMomâs mad. Time to go.â
âHey, honey!â Blu said, catching his breath. âAre you hungry?â
Jewel flew into the room, still holding the Brazil nut. âBlu, we talked about this.â
The kids watched their parents. âNeck twist,â Carla said as Blu fidgeted. âChange of subject.â
âUmmm, so, uhhh, so whatta you got there?â Blu managed to say.
âBreakfast,â she told him, irritated.
âThatâs funny,â Blu said, grinning. âBut, seriously, what is that?â
Jewel dropped it on the counter. âItâs a Brazil nut. I never thought Iâd find one this close to the city. I want to show the kids how to open one.â
âYou mean like this?â Tiago blurted out. He popped open a can of Brazil nuts, causing his mother to groan. âDad already showed us.â
Jewel looked at Blu, but before she could say anything, Carla let out a squeal.
âWait! Wait . . . wait, go back! Mom! Dad!â she interrupted. âYouâre on TV!â
The family gathered around the television set. A reporter was interviewing Tulio.
âDoctor Tulio Monteiro, the âBird Man of Brazil,â announced an important discovery today,â the reporter said. The camera flashed to Tulio.
Tulio nodded, holding up a blue feather. âWe believe we have encountered a wild blue Spixâs Macaw deep in the Amazon jungle.â
âThe blue Spixâs Macaw was thought to be practically extinct,â the reporter chimed in, âwith the last remaining family living under protection at the Blu Bird Sanctuary in Rio de Janiero.â Pictures of Blu, Jewel, and the kids flashed onto the screen.
âWeâre famous!â Carla said excitedly.
The scene flashed back to Tulio and Linda at their camp in the Amazon. âThere may be a whole flock out there,â Tulio said. âAnd if there is, we will find them and protect them!â
Tulio pulled Linda close as she waved at the camera. âHi, Blu.â
âHi, Linda!â Blu said to the TV. They were still waving as the camera pulled away.
Jewel gazed at her family in amazement. âWeâre not the only ones! There are more of us out there!â
âYeah, thatâs great. Iâm sure thereââ
âAll this time, I thought we were all alone,â Jewel said to herself.
âHey, it hasnât been all bad,â Blu protested.
Jewel turned to him. âOf course not! But just imagine if there was a whole flock of us.â Jewel flew over to the window and looked outside, lost in thought. âHow amazing would that be?â Her mind was racing. âWeâve got to do something!â
Blu gaped at her. âWe do?â
Jewelâs excitement was growing. âYeah! We have to fly to the Amazon and help Linda and Tulio find them!â She hopped from foot to foot.
âWhoa.
