it with me, but I went ahead and reread everything with Mac. Grams always said ‘don’t sign anything without reading it and if you can, have a lawyer look at it first”. All the paperwork was in order and nothing had been changed, so Mac and I both excitedly signed the papers. “Congratulations” Linda said, shaking our hands.
We smiled all the way to the only home improvement store two towns over. We wanted to get what we would need to start cleaning the building out immediately tomorrow morning. “I have to call Jed. He said he knew a contractor who had a crew that could help us. We need to get in contact with him immediately so they don’t get caught up on another job.” I reached for my phone and dialed the man that I had grown close to the last couple of weeks.
“Hey, baby girl,” he said when he picked up the phone. I could hear a lot of commotion in the background though not what was going on. “What can I do for you?”
“Hey, well if you could turn back time about thirty years and whisk me away that would be nice.” I always flirted with him in good fun. He was old enough to be my dad but he was one of the best men I had ever met, so I teased him about being born too early and lamented the fact that I was born too late. Not to mention he was surprisingly good looking for his age.
“That I cannot do, precious, but I can help with whatever you’re calling about, which I’m assuming is confirmation that you bought the building and that you would like me to send the contractor over first thing in the morning, if not tomorrow afternoon.”
“Good heaven is it already in the gossip mill. We just signed the papers an hour ago before we ran over here to Bedford to get cleaning supplies and have a bite to eat.” It still amazed me at small town gossip and how fast news traveled in them. “Yes, it’s done. We were going to get a head start tomorrow morning trying to get the old stuff moved out of the building, the electric turned on, and start cleaning it up some. When do you think the contractor can make it out there?”
“Just a minute.” He said. The phone was muffled by his hand, but I still heard a lot of background noise, though I’m not sure what I was hearing. My guess he was at the clubhouse for some reason and there was a party going on.
“He’s a bit busy at the moment, but I can either get him to call you or –“, It was then that I heard a woman scream “Oh my God,” followed by a “Fuck yeah” from a man. Jed sighed, knowing I heard that. “I can get him to call you tomorrow morning and baby girl,” he paused, “Forget you heard that.”
I started laughing. “Not likely Jed, but I’ll be waiting to hear from him tomorrow. You can give him my number.” Wow, Jed had walked into a room with a man and woman having sex and he sounded like it was the most natural thing in the world.
My curiosity about the clubhouse was piqued. I don’t even know where the damn thing is located exactly. I have a guess, but it is well hidden wherever it is. I know it’s off the lake somewhere, but from the snippets of information I have gathered over the last few weeks, it’s not seen from the lake and the road that leads to the entrance is easily missed if you don’t know it’s there. The Steel Demons, as they call themselves, definitely want their privacy and from what I just heard, I give credence to the orgy rumors.
Chapter Two
Brice
It had been slow in recent weeks as far as work was concerned, so when Gavel asked me to do contract work on a business venture “his girl” was opening up near downtown Belle, I was quick to say yes. We needed the work and had the time. It was money coming into our pockets and into the club. The part that grabbed my
