Molly wondered as she played with an olive in her drink. âShall we continue?â
âNo, I think now that we know each other so well, you should find Jaycee, say good-bye to her, and leave with me.â
âRight now?â
âRight now.â
âOkay.â
âIâll meet you outside.â
With that Molly stood up and headed back into the bar to find Jaycee. She had no idea what she was doing or why, but it really didnât matter. Her mind was swimming and she loved every minute of the dip. This was one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments that she just had to grab. It was scary, potentially dangerous, and completely irrational, but it was also a must do. Even if he turned out to be a psycho, which was pretty much even odds at this point, she had to follow her gut and follow him out the door. Molly spotted Jaycee at the end of the bar talking to Mark and rushed over to her.
âIâm leaving.â
âWhat?â
âIâm leaving.â
âHow?â Jay asked. âThe band hasnât even gone on yet.â
âWith Liam.â
âWhoâs Liam?â
âThe god.â
âYouâre joking, right?â
âNope. Is that cool?â
âNo, but does it matter what I think?â
âNot really,â Molly answered. âAnd I know how bitchy and lame that sounds, but I just have to go.â
âWhat about John?â
âWasnât it you who told me to drop the ball a little?â
âThis is not dropping it a little, this is pretty much popping it and watching it shrivel up and blow right out of the stadium.â
âDonât be so dramatic.â
âOkay, okay, go, but leave your cell on because Iâm going to call and check on you.â
âThanks, babe.â Molly kissed her cheek. âWish me luck.â
âJust get out of here, Mark will keep me company.â
Molly grabbed her coat from behind the bar and bolted for the door. She swung it open with such force that she almost took Liam out with the corner of the shiny edge.
âYou are dangerous!â he exclaimed as he stepped backward to avoid the injury.
âIâm so sorry.â Molly blushed. âIâm having coordination problems tonight.â
âCouldnât tell,â Liam said with a straight face.
âLiam, Iâm really sorry,â Molly repeated as she started freaking out. âIâm not usually such a disaster. I swear â¦â
âRelax,â Liam interrupted. âIâm just giving you a hard time.â
âThanks. Not like Iâm not nervous enough,â she muttered under her breath.
âWhy are you nervous?â
âYou werenât supposed to hear that.â She blushed again.
âBut I did.â
âLetâs just get out of here before I change my mind.â
âSounds good. I wouldnât want to lose you now.â
Liam offered Molly his arm, and the two of them walked together to the parking lot, their streetlamp shadows blending into one. They made their way to his perfectly restored vintage muscle car and started driving.
âWhere to?â Liam asked, pulling onto Sunset.
âWherever. I got no plans.â Checking the side-view mirror to see if her scarf was secured. âWell, I had plans, but this tornado sort of swept through and turned them on their head.â Looking at him.
âI kind of like being a force of nature.â
âI bet you do.â Bantering.
Liam leaned his head out the window at the next stoplight and looked toward the sky.
âHow about the beach? We can pick up some beers.â
âSure.â Not knowing why she was so casually agreeing to drive to a deserted beach with a total stranger. Maybe it was the way Sunset Boulevardâs neon lights framed his cheekbones.
âSo, whatâs under there?â Tugging at the edge of her scarf.
âYou donât want to know. My hair sometimes
