nobody, he went to Sofia as well. He looked at John who was holding the crying woman. John looked at him with the same concern in his eyes. They had experienced PTS after their stint as ISIS POW’s. It had taken some time to get over the initial horrible effects, but they had each other as well as other friends who knew what it was they were going through. The nightmares were the easiest part to deal with. The hallucinations were the worse. The inability to determine reality from delusion was scary. “It’s ok kitten,” John reassured softly. “You’re safe sweetheart. We’re here. We won’t let anything happen to you. You’re safe.” Sofia buried her face in John’s chest and clutched at him. Her sobs tore at the men’s hearts. John held her tighter to him; Dom put a comforting, heavy hand on her back. They both stayed with her until the tears dried up.
Chapter 6 “I’ll understand if you want me to leave,” Sofia told them after she finished crying. “I’m sorry for being such a … baby.” “Oh honey, you aren’t being a baby,” John said to her soothingly. He pulled her closer to him. “You’ve been through so much in the last seven months kitten. We would be surprised if you weren’t feeling a little overwhelmed by it all.” Sofia wrapped her arms around him and buried her face in his neck. He held her like that for several long minutes. When he felt her sigh and then settle in next to him, he knew she had fallen asleep and laid her down gently. He pushed her hair behind her ear. Leaning down he kissed her on the forehead. “We need to get her some help,” Dom said softly. “Yeah,” John whispered. “But for now she needs to get some sleep. I’ll stay with her for a couple of hours and then you can take a couple more if she needs it.” “Ok. I’m going to go do some research. I’ll check in on you both in awhile.” John sighed deeply as he lay down next to Sofia. It felt so right being with her. He needed to be there with her. She was his other half. Without her he had been empty. The last six months had shown him how much he cared for her, how much he … loved her. He needed to take care of her. No other woman had ever affected him like this. His stomach did somersaults whenever she looked at him with those big brown eyes. It was electric every place on his body she touched him. He was a soldier. He knew how to control his emotions. When she had been missing, he had trouble controlling his anxiety for her. When he saw her on that table, bleeding to death it was all he could do to stem his terror at the thought of losing her. She didn’t need his fear; she needed him to be in control. She didn’t need a boyfriend; she needed a master to take care of her. He and Dom had to take authority over her and get her out from behind these memories of terror. They had to reset her boundaries of self. Today had been a good start, but they needed to be firmer with her, much firmer. He smiled as he figured out what they needed to do to bring her back from the horror.
Chapter 7 “How was group?” Dom asked as the three of them sat down for dinner. “It was good,” Sofia understated. She always felt weird talking about her group therapy with Dom and John. It made her feel weak and like an infant. She had been quiet, listening to the others who had more horrific stories to tell than hers. She felt like she didn’t belong there. Until this week, she had not enjoyed going but they had demand that she attend. “Were you able to talk about what happened to you?” John asked. “A little.” “How did that feel?” “Good.” It was like pulling teeth to get information out of her. They knew she
