needed some air,” I replied, sipping the champagne delicately.
“So, are you angry your dad married my mom?”
“What? Oh no. Of course not. They’re good together. I hope I get as lucky.”
“That’s such a relief. I’ve haven’t seen my mom this happy in a while. So then, what’s with the attitude then? Why are you mad?”
I couldn’t help it - maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was the sincerity in Nick’s voice - but the tears I’d been holding back poured out along with all my sorrow over Josh. How he was suffocating me, and how the last few months of our relationship had been agonizing but I couldn’t tell anyone. The only person I could talk to was my dad, and I didn’t want to give him the benefit of admitting that he was right the whole time. He would never tell me he told me so, but I just didn’t want to have him even think that I made a mistake. My mom was too busy with her husband and new family to listen to me. And my best friend, my roommate, had just broken up with her fiancé and was hardly the person to run to about my “man problem.” If anything, I’ve had to endure weeks of listening to her curse out her fiancé, who she caught in bed with another woman. Why couldn’t relationships be simpler? Why couldn’t I just meet a nice man who had no issues and treated me the way I deserve?
I knew Nick was listening to me because he made eye contact when it was appropriate and had the right inflections in his tone. Surprisingly, he was easy to talk, and I found myself talking without thinking, getting everything off my chest. Throughout, I sobbed, sipped champagne, and got a little tipsy. I’ve never had a head for alcohol and only indulged when I was hyper or depressed, and today, I was both.
When I finally calmed down, Nick moved closer to me and sat on my lounge chair. He put his arms around me and held me tight. At first, it was an innocent brotherly hug, but he wasn’t letting go. I set my glass down and wrapped my arms around him as a sister would, but he drew closer to me, hugging me tighter.
“You’re a very beautiful and extremely desirable woman, Jena. Forget Josh and just let go.”

CHAPTER 4

Nick ran his hand up and down my back and whispered in my ears. The touch of his hands on my tense muscles relaxed me. After a few moments, he did something totally unexpected – he kissed me on the neck. At first, I didn’t know how to react. I had never had a brother, so I wasn’t sure if that type of display of affection was normal between siblings, or if it was just misplaced attraction. Whatever the case, I was enjoying the kiss and I wished he wouldn’t stop. He didn’t disappointment me. He kept nibbling at my neck, his hands reaching past the curve of my back towards my hips. Unfortunately, my ball gown got in the way, and he couldn’t reach past where the waist of the dress flared into a gown.
“You must be suffocating in this dress,” he mumbled.
I nodded, hardly hearing his statement, focusing on the sensations passing through my body. His lips alone were waking up senses I never even knew existed. I had kissed Josh a million times but had never felt this way with him, even when I was tipsy. I held Nick in a tight embrace, but my hands had started moving around to his stomach and down to his crotch.
He fumbled a little more with my dress, deciding that he had had enough of it. He lay me down on the chair, and his hand went under the skirts. I knew exactly what was happening, but I did not feel inclined to stop him. He felt so good and so right, and I wanted to feel the delightful sensations that he was causing in me. I propped myself on my elbow and parted my knees.
Nick sat on the edge of my chair and tried to push past all the tulle.
“How do you wear this dress?” he asked, laughing when he finally found my panties.
“Feel free to take it off.”
From my vantage point, I could hardly see him as he was covered in my underskirt, but I could feel
