fairy. Chase decided then and there to start working out more often. Oh yeah, and to start being meaner to strangers.
A smile crossed Reed’s face. “I know. You are my male mystic mate. After you are trained in our ways, we will go get our female mystic mate. She will be the one to produce our children.”
Let’s see how Mister Crazy answers this question. “If you just need babies, why are you taking males?” Mentally, Chase did a victory dance.
Sorrow etched Reed’s features. “Because a lot of our young males died, too. We need warriors as well as women. I’m sure you understand the concept of strength in numbers.” Reed eyed Chase. “You are one of those numbers. Your warrior training will start soon.”
Chase stopped his mental victory dance. Reed wasn’t supposed to come up with such a good answer. Chase started feeling snippety. “What if I don’t want to have sex with her? I might prefer men only.”
Reed shook his head. “You are bisexual. The Enlightened Ones would not have marked you if you weren’t. You are supposed to be my perfect mate.”
The tingling in Chase’s balls was intensifying. Reed was so hot. Still, Chase didn’t feel like giving in just yet. “Is she here? I don’t think I’m going to like her or you.”
Reed laughed. “You are already attracted to me just as much as I’m attracted to you. To answer your question about our other mate, she’s not here. Remember, I just told you about her. When the time is right, we will go get her.”
Chase scowled. “I remembered. I was just trying to catch you in a lie.”
Reed’s brows drew together sharply. “Fairies don’t lie. Now back to your role in all this. One of your tasks will be to help her adjust to her new home. You don’t have to worry about that right now, though. We won’t retrieve her until we are a strong couple and the trollettes are taken care of.”
“Trollettes? You’re kidding me, right?” This couldn’t be happening.
“No, I’m not kidding. It’s not in my nature. A small band of trollettes are trying to take over our lands, or cause trouble of some other sort, but they won’t succeed.” Reed’s voice had turned icy. Chase shivered visibly. Reed stood and from his towering height stared down at Chase.
Chase thought he saw a flicker of warmth, but it disappeared in the blink of an eye. Maybe he had imagined it. Why did this beautiful man have to be so cold?
Reed reached out and twirled a finger in one of Chase’s curly brown locks of hair. “Soft. That’s good, but it needs to be longer. Go take your bath then wait for me on the bed.”
Chase watched as Reed turned and left the room. There was no way he was going to jump every time Reed told him to do something. Chase crossed his arms and planned on staying put. Without warning, Chase’s body stood up and headed for the bathroom. Damn that cold-assed fairy. This was wrong on so many levels. He wanted to cry when his hands started removing his clothes and his body went to the tub and sank into the warm water that was waiting on him.
Fear washed over him. Reed was almost emotionless. Would he be a cold lover? A tear trickled down his cheek as his hands started washing his body. Would this auto-mode he was in lead him to a horrible sexual experience? Another tear raced down his cheek. What was wrong with him? His emotions were just as out of control as his body. He tried once again to turn off this strange auto-mode, but his hands kept on washing his body. A large lump formed in his throat. He wished he could make it all stop.

Chapter Two

    Chase was making himself sick.
After his bath, the cursed auto-mode made him dry himself off. He watched in horror as his hands grabbed the waiting towel and started rubbing every inch of his body. Closing his eyes and thinking hard, Chase tried to get control of his body. He mentally refused to put on the sheer blue, thigh-length robe that hung from a decorative hook on the back of the door.
