wear.”
“Would you feel uncomfortable if we went back to my place? A hell of a lot more private for us to get to know each other without all the rumors flying around us.”
Her gaze bounced between him and Mitch again. Finally, she let out a sigh and turned to face him. “Are you inviting me over for sex?”
He jerked a bit in surprise. She was blunt. Hell, if that didn’t turn him on more. He wouldn’t have thought that was possible. Luckily, he recovered quickly. “Are you offering?” She didn’t need to know he was repeating “please” over and over again in his head.
She grinned. “You are pretty cute.”
He remembered her earlier comment when she hadn’t known he was behind her. Which brought Lorraine and her censor to mind. If Mandy went out with them and it became known, those rumors would involve her as well. It wasn’t always an easy thing to handle.
“The rumor doesn’t scare you?”
She shook her head. “I don’t scare easily.”
“If anyone knows you’re going out with us, they’re probably going to talk.”
“I’ve never been afraid of what other people think.”
They eyed each other, and he wondered again if she might be the one they’d been waiting for. “So dinner?” he finally prompted.
“Yes. Definitely dinner. We’ll see about the rest.” She winked at him and turned to open her car door.
They both looked up at the echo of footsteps across the lot. Tanner could see the censor in the older nurse’s eyes from where he stood.
Mandy sighed. “Well, you’ve done it now.”
“Done what?”
“Dragged me into your rumor. I’ll be the scarlet woman whether we have sex or not.”
He sighed this time. “You can just say no. I’d understand.”
She looked up at him, and her green eyes sparkled. “I could, but what would be the fun in that? You’ll just have to make sure you make it worthwhile for me.” She opened the door and sat in the seat before closing it. He watched her put the key in then roll down the window. “I’ll see you at six?”
He nodded his head. She’d made the choice, even knowing the rumors. Hell, she’d point-blank asked him if it would just be him, and he’d told her no. Still, she’d accepted. So, he hadn’t shared everything with her. She didn’t know about Dylan, or the fact they liked to get a little kinky in the bedroom. Somehow, he didn’t think that would faze her.
She started the car, and he took a step back from her open window.
“Until six then.” He knew his eyes showed the desire he felt. But Mandy didn’t seem turned off by it. In fact, he’d swear she was as aroused by the thought of sex as he was. Hell, he should have said yes when she asked if he was inviting her over for sex.
He headed back to where Mitch stood as she pulled out of the lot and drove away.
“Well, what did she say?”
“I’m picking her up at six.”
Mitch lifted his brow. “Just you?”
“She asked that as well. I told her no.”
“And she agreed?”
“She agreed to have dinner with us.”
“What about Dylan?”
“He won’t be home in time for dinner.”
Mitch shook his head. “So, you didn’t tell her there was a third to our little group?”
“She didn’t ask.” Tanner looked at Mitch and changed the subject. “She asked Lorraine if you were gay.”
Mitch laughed. “Like we haven’t heard that before. Women just don’t seem to understand how we can like to share without sharing each other as well.”
“It’s all those erotic books that are everywhere now. I can’t believe women enjoy reading about two men together.” Tanner shuddered. “I like fucking my dick up a tight little ass, but I want it on a woman.”
Mitch laughed. “I agree.”
“She asked if I was inviting her over for sex.”
Mitch paused with his door open as Tanner took the driver’s seat and shut the door. Tanner watched Mitch as he finally sat and slammed the door closed.
“And?”
“She didn’t say no.”
