earn it.
If he made every single woman earn his attention, why
was he the one trying to get
Charlotte’s attention?
She put the glass down on a pavement slab in the
corner before heading back inside. Not once did she look his way. Clicking his
tongue, he finished mowing up the lawn before taking a sip.
Watching her house, he wondered what she did for a
living. She rarely left her home, and yet she didn’t seem to be struggling.
He’d seen her go out for groceries, which stopped him thinking she was
agoraphobic, suffering a fear of the outdoors.
Finishing off the drink, he did something different
today. He knocked on her door, waiting for her to open it.
“Hello,” she said. She stared back at him. “Would you
like another drink?”
“Actually, I was wondering if you’d like your back
yard done. I’ve finished the front, and I’ll be doing my back in a moment.”
“Oh, would you do that? There’s not a lot around the
back, but if you want to do it, I don’t mind.”
“Sure. I’ll be around in a moment. Is your gate
unlocked?” he asked.
“Yes, it is.”
“I’ll see you in a moment.”
He handed her the glass, going to his piece of
machinery.
What the hell are you doing, Bryan? Are you looking to get into some
kind of trouble?
Charlotte was his reserved neighbor, and he needed to
remember that. Getting involved with her would be a big mistake. He liked
fucking whoever he wanted without answering to anyone. Bryan knew at a young
age he’d never be a one woman man. Not even to this day could a woman keep him
satisfied for longer than a few fucks at a time.
Every woman who came through his door knew the score.
They knew not to expect anything from him other than a good time. He didn’t
fall in love or make promises he couldn’t keep.
There was no way his mousy neighbor would know how to
handle a guy like him. She was like Susan, into settling down and having kids. No,
he wouldn’t think any more of Charlotte even if his dick kept getting hard
around her.
Chapter Two
Charlotte finished spiraling the last of her brown locks and blew out a breath as she stared at her
reflection. She didn’t feel sexy in the deep blue cocktail dress. Standing up,
she smoothed a hand over her abundant curves, hoping she didn’t look too big.
Daniel was a player. She wasn’t a fool and knew he didn’t live like a monk.
“Are you ready?” Susan asked, walking upstairs.
Her friend and neighbor had been waiting for her. The
kids were being babysat by the local teenager that could in fact be trusted
with young children.
“Yes, I’m ready.” She turned to see Susan entering the
room. “How do I look?”
“You look great. Daniel is one lucky guy. There’s
something I’ve got to tell you—” Susan stopped talking to bite her lip.
“What is it?”
“Erm, you know what it’s nothing. Just forget I ever
said anything. Everything is going to be fine.” Susan smiled, but it didn’t
quite reach her eyes.
“What’s going on?”
“Nothing. Nothing is going on, and I’m sure everything is going to be fine.
Tonight is going to be awesome. I promise you.” Susan gripped her hands. “Now,
let’s get out of here before you check your mails and find a reason not to come
tonight.”
Charlotte chuckled. “I promised you I was coming, and
I’m not going to back out or back down. I’m coming.” She shook her head,
reaching down to grab her purse. “I’m not a stick in the mud.”
“I know you like sticking around home though.”
“There’s nothing wrong with loving your work.”
“I get that, but you’re young and you’ve got to get a
guy for yourself. I want you to be as happy as I am.”
“I don’t think that’s going to happen, but a girl can
dream.” She followed Susan, locking her home up as she went toward the car. Michael
was already waiting for them. Climbing in the back behind him, she settled down
in the car.
“Daniel’s going to meet us there,” Michael
