keep the peace within the club.
“What are you doing?” Duke asked.
“I’m showing a woman that she’s not broken. Since when do you get involved with shit like this?”
“Shit like this is my responsibility. We’ve got a ride coming up in a month. Diaz is part of our crew, and we’re transporting a shitload of product out of town away from us. I can’t be having two men, two fighters at each other’s throats during the whole ride. I’ve got a family, Knuckles. I’m not going to risk my life, or that of my club.”
“I’d never put the club at risk.”
“Yet you’re going to fuck his sister.”
“It’s not just about a fuck.”
    “Then what is it about?”
Knuckles paused and smirked. “You think I’m going to tell you? You’re my Prez, Duke, not my dad, and not hers.”
“You’re right, I’m not either of your dads. I’m the fucker that has to deal with the fallout if you two don’t make it. If you’re not sure on Beth, I’m the one responsible for Daisy coming and beating the shit out of you. When I went after Holly, I made sure I was fucking ready to claim that woman. She’s mine, and no one is ever going to take her away from me. Russ was my club Prez, and I took his place with his blessing. Holly’s his daughter. You don’t think I know what the hell is going on here? I do. I’ve been through this, only I chose not to be a dick. Daisy’s not her father. He’s her brother.”
Stepping back, Knuckles ran fingers through his hair. “What I feel for Beth is real.”
“I figured as much. Ever since she came on the scene, you’ve barely touched any of the women.”
“I can’t let her go,” Knuckles said.
“If you’re serious about this, then go for it. Don’t pretend, don’t try to show Daisy you’re this big man. Be the man, and make sure you settle all your differences before we head out on the road. I’ve got too much shit going on to worry about the two of you.”
    “I’ll deal with it.”
    “Good.”
Grabbing the paperwork from the table where his tools were, Knuckles ticked through everything he’d done, making a note on all of the things that would have to be done in the future. The old car was going to be brand new in a couple of months. Knuckles had lost count of the number of engines he’d done on this old piece of metal. Still, a car is a car, and when you find the one you want, it’s hard to give up, even if that same car has been changed enough to be classed as several different cars.
“How is Matthew getting on at college?”
Matthew was Duke’s son, eighteen years old, nearly nineteen, and in college. He’d decided to go out of town to another state, so he only visited on every other weekend. Holly had wanted for Matthew to have choices even if he wanted to be a Trojan. If, after college, he wanted to be a Trojan, there would be a place for him to start to earn his patch.
“He’s coming back next week, and we’re supposed to go away with Drake. He’s nearly four now, so he’s getting nice and big, ready to start camping. Bell would be staying with Holly.”
“I figured as much with her only being a few months old,” Knuckles said.
“Matty has settled down. He’s not the same kid that wanted to become a prospect before going away to college. The, um, the pregnancy scare last year really fucked him up. He’s calmed right down.”
Last year Matthew had had sex with a girl in his year, Luna Daniels, and the condom had broken. With Holly and Duke with them, Luna had taken a pregnancy test to discover she wasn’t pregnant.
“Nothing like being on the verge of parenthood to wake you up.”
Duke blew out a long breath. “I’m still too fucking young to be a granddad.”
“You’d be one of those hot granddads,” Knuckles said, laughing.
“Well, it’s not happening, and I’ve got to be thankful for something, and that is the fact my son has gotten his head on straight. I can’t deal with worrying about him. He’s far enough
