Her lower lip trembled so badly that Josh instantly grabbed a tissue from Jode’s
desk and handed it to her. She dabbed at the sides of her eyes.
    “He’s one of those men…” she sobbed.
    Josh stared at Jode looking for an answer. His brother shrugged.
    Don’t look at me. I don’t know what she means, except for
what I can come up with in my imagination. And those scenarios are all bad ,
Jode said.
    “It’s why Cammie left…or rather why she was forced to leave.”
She blew her nose into the tissue.
    Forced to leave. I want to kill Earl , Jode growled.
    Back down. She’s on the verge of hysteria. We can
question her tomorrow when she’s feeling better.
    Tomorrow is Saturday. We can’t ask her to leave her kids
on the weekend.
    You’re right. Leave it until Monday.
    “I’ve already said too much. I can’t say more. I don’t want
a defamation of character lawsuit on my hands. I should go…” She stood and
walked past Josh. She opened the door and then hesitated.
    “You can contact Cammie’s agent, Alison Kent. Her number is
in my database. You already have my password. You can tell her that I sent you.
I don’t know if she’ll reveal Cammie’s whereabouts. She left town abruptly
years ago and didn’t leave anyone a forwarding address.”
    No forwarding address? Must have been something really
serious , Jode murmured.
    “Alison will be able to tell you if Cammie is still
available. If I were you two I would hurry before Earl finds her first. The bet
you made with him will make him even more aggressive than he already is.”
    Josh nodded. The now-familiar twist of desperation raged
through him yet again. It seemed as if Earl was a bigger monster than they’d
originally thought.
    “You heard the lady. We’d better move fast,” Jode said after
Kim left the room.
    “I’m already on it,” Josh replied and quickly headed to Jode’s
computer.

solar-powered toys,” Cammie Creek’s red-haired agent Alison Kent said
excitedly. Alison had called late last night insisting they get together for a
breakfast meeting because she was taking the Acela from New York and she had a
job opportunity Cammie would not be able to pass up.
    Now they sat at Cammie’s favorite downtown Philadelphia
breakfast bar, sipping green tea and munching blueberry bagels doused with the
bar’s ultra-delicious blueberry cream cheese as a wicked nervousness raced
through her. Sexy Toys wanted her back after all these years.
    “They’re thinking videos, toy trailers, advertisement
layouts in all the major toy magazines and websites. The works. As I said, the
new owners want only you. And they want you yesterday.” Alison nodded to the
arrangement of papers Cammie was sifting through.
    “I met with the owners last night. They are really eager to
meet you. They said they saw your photos in the conference room. Those two men
are so hot, sexy and young. I know a secret about them, but you’ll know what it
is when you see them.”
    A secret ? Before Cammie could question her, Alison
continued.
    “I like their vision. Past embraces future. You’re from
their past. A successful past, I might add, and their new line sounds
impressive. You’ll work exclusively with the two owners and the male models. I
told them you have a gorgeous house filled with gorgeous rooms so they can use
it for their shoot and they agreed. As you’ve seen there’s a property release
form in there too along with the model release agreement.”
    “Alison…”
    “I know, I know. You guys had a falling-out years ago, but
this money is just way too good to give up. Earl is not involved in the shoot.
The new owners have promised not to let him know your whereabouts.”
    “Do they know what happened?” Surely they didn’t or they
wouldn’t be asking for her services.
