table with a firefly lamp shining down on her wings. A healing-talent fairy was studying her wings closely while Fawn stood off to the side.
âWe got here as quick as we could,â Rosetta said.
âWe did have to stop at reception,â Silvermist explained.
âDid you really cross?â Iridessa asked.
Tinker Bell was touched that her friends had dropped everything to come see her. She couldnât wait to tell them how her wings had sparkled!
But she didnât get the chance to answer, because the healing fairy cut off their chatter. âShhhh,â the fairy scolded them.
The three friends nodded and grew quiet. Still, Iridessa couldnât stand not knowing what had happened. She leaned in close to Tinker Bell. âWell, did you?â she whispered loudly.
âShhh!â the healing fairy snapped. She made the light brighter and moved her magnifying glass over Tinker Bellâs wings.
Just then, Vidia sped into the room. When she saw Tinker Bellâs wings magnified under the glass, she gasped. âWhoa,â she said.
Tinkâs other friends shot her a look. âShhh!â they all hushed Vidia together.
Finally, the healing fairy took a step back. âOkay,â she said to Tinker Bell. âYouâre all warmed up. Letâs test your wings.â
Tinker Bell sat up a little straighter.
âOpen,â the healing fairy instructed. âClose.â
Tinker Bell did as she was told.
âTry a little flap,â the healing fairy said.
Tinker Bell quickly flapped her wings.
âCan you give me a flitter?â
Tinker Bell took a deep breath and flittered her wings. They felt perfectly normal.
The healing fairy looked pleased. âWell, I donât see anything unusual. Your wings appear to be fine.â
Tinker Bellâs friends sighed in relief.
âBut what about the sparkling?â Tink asked.
âHmm,â the healing fairy said, gathering her things to see the next patient. âWell, it must have been the light reflecting off the snow.â
âButâ¦â Tinker Bell protested.
The healing fairy gave her a stern look. âYou should have never crossed the border,â she scolded her. âWinter is too cold for our warm fairy wings. Now, to be safe, I want you to take two sunflower seeds and come back if there is any problem.â
Together, Tinkâs friends led her out of the fairy hospital. They were all relieved that Tinker Bell was okay.
âWe were worried,â Silvermist said.
âYou are so lucky nothing happened to your wings,â Fawn added.
âCan you imagine?â Rosetta shook her head.
Tinker Bell looked around at her friends. âBut something did happen,â she tried to explain. âThey sparkled!â
Iridessa patted her on the shoulder. âYou heard the healing fairy. It was just the light reflecting off the snow.â
âNo, it wasnât!â Tinker Bell insisted. âThey actually lit up! It was brighter than a thousand fireflies.â She turned to Fawn. âYou saw it, didnât you?â she asked.
Fawn looked down at her feet. âNoâ¦â she said finally.
Tinkâs shoulders slumped. âYou donât believe me?â She sighed when her friends shook their heads. âLook, you guys. It happened. It felt likeâ¦likeâ¦â
âLike what?â Silvermist asked.
Tinker Bell gazed off into the distance. âLike the Winter Woods was calling me,â she whispered.
Her friends all looked at one another anxiously. Now Tinker Bell was really acting crazy!
âUh-huh,â Rosetta said slowly. Then she whispered to the others, âGet the doctor!â
Tink sighed. It didnât matter what the healing fairy had said. She knew her wings had sparkled. She wished her friends believed her. And more than anything, she wanted to know what the sparkling had meant.
L ater that day, Tink flew off to the Book Nook.
