out he grabbed one of the stacks and studied it. The bills appeared genuine. Sally squealed again with joy.
âIâm rich!â she said.
âYou should have asked for hundred-dollar denominations,â Watch said. âYouâre never going to be able to get all this stuff back to your house.â
âEven if you could,â Cindy said, âyou couldnât fit it in your house.â
Sally snickered. âYou guys are just jealous! Iâm a millionaire and youâre not.â
âWell, maybe you could give us all loans,â Watch said.
âI want some new clothes,â Cindy said suddenly.
âWait a second,â Adam said. But no one was listening.
âWhat do you want?â Sally asked Cindy.
Cindy rubbed her hands together. âIâd love a black leather jacket and some black leather boots. Then I need some clothes for school. How about a Gap sweater and skirt? Light yellow to match my hair.â
âYou need this to go to school in Spooksville?â Watch asked.
Sally waved her hand. âIt doesnât matter. If she wants it she wants it.â Sally closed her eyes, then spoke out loud and wished for what Cindy had just requested.
The clothes did not appear.
Sally opened her eyes and studied the stone. âIt canât be worn out already. Watch?â
âItâs possible Cindy has to make her own wishes,â he said. âYou donât really want these clothes, not the way you wanted the million dollars. Give Cindy the stone and weâll see.â
âIâm not giving her the stone,â Sally said quickly.
âIâll give it back,â Cindy said.
âHow do I know you will?â Sally asked suspiciously.
Cindy was insulted. âWhen have I ever stolen anything of yours?â
âWhen have I ever had a Wishing Stone before?â Sally asked.
âThis is getting ridiculous,â Adam interrupted. âThe stone is already causing problems. Letâs put it back.â
âThere are a couple of things I would like,â Watch said.
Adam was stunned. âBut I thought you agreed with me?â
Watch smiled. âI did until I saw the million dollars.â
âIâll give Watch the stone first,â Sally said. âAs an experiment.â
âWhatâs wrong with me?â Cindy complained.
âNothingâs wrong with you,â Sally said impatiently. âBut Iâve known Watch longer than you. I know for a fact heâll give the stone back when I ask for it.â She went to hand the stone to Watch and then stopped. âYou will give it back to me, wonât you?â
Watch shrugged. âSure.â
âSwear on your life,â Sally ordered.
âItâs not good to swear,â Cindy said.
âI swear to whatever you want me to swear to,â Watch said.
âAll right.â Sally reluctantly handed over the stone. âDonât break it.â
Watch held the stone close to his heart and closed his eyes. For a moment he concentrated deeply. Then he spoke. âI wish for a six-inch refractor telescope with clock drive and computer-assisted star finder.â
The telescope appeared just off the path.
âCool,â Watch said.
âLet me try!â Cindy exclaimed.
âItâs my turn,â Sally snapped. âWatch, give me the stone back.â
âJust a moment,â Watch said, closing his eyes once more. âI wish for a laser pistol.â
A black pistol-shaped device materialized at his feet.
Watch knelt and picked it up. He pointed it at a nearby rock and pulled the trigger. There was a flash of red light. The rock exploded into a thousand pieces. The gang jumped, except for Watch. He studied the weapon closer.
âItâs interesting,â he muttered.
âItâs very powerful,â Adam gasped.
âWhat I mean,â Watch continued, âis that the Wishing Stone was able to materialize
