is going to helicopters in the desert ?” I was giggling, but Jake stopped, spinning me to look in his eyes. His face was a dark muscular slate, the beautiful brown eyes gleaming, the cheekbones begging to be touched.
“ Yes . ”
I melted back into him as we continued outside. He was still dressed in full ROTC uniform, and joined up with a small group of others in similar attire, all carrying instruments of their own. Stepping through massive double doors into what should have been a back yard, I was floored by the open space. This home was right on the fringe of a golf course, and the yard opened up straight onto green near the clubhouse. Rows of chairs sat mostly filled, with an aisle of rose petals running down the center. A huge arch had been erected on a platform at the end of the aisle for the marriage itself to take place. It was beautiful.
“ Have a seat... Wait for me .” Jake said.
I would wait for him forever, if he asked me...
I walked back to the rows of seats, watching the beginnings of the ceremony unfold. I’ d never seen anything quiet like this. The amount of money that must have been spent in this ceremony blew my mind. Off to one side was a fountain of champaign that must have cost more than my car. Of course, I did n’ t waste time sneaking a glass as everyone was watching flower girls spreading yet another layer of petals on the long white carpet between the aisles. Meanwhile, Jak e’ s band set up off to the side, near a makeshift wooden dance floor laid over the grass. I stared around the gaunt faces, suits, and the occasional uniform; this was a military wedding and Jake was part of the entertainment!
The wedding was nice, but the party really started once the beautiful bride and groom said thei r“ I D O” . People were laughing, smiling, clinking glasses, and even I was feeling a little buzz from the champagne I’ d sneaked. Above the din, rose the sound of a guitar.
Jake!
I spun on my heels, staring at the small stage set off to the side, as the ROTC band started to play. Jake stepped up to the mic, his fingers flying across the neck of the Gibson. His lips parted, and I almost died laughing as Billy Idol poured out from between them .“ Hey little sister what have you done ? ”
White Wedding...
More than that, he was playing for me. His eyes never left mine, his smile warm and inviting as the words leapt from his throat. Love song after love song, it was almost like the whole world around me had melted away. It was just me and Jake. I found myself gravitating toward the dance floor, where I let my body move me to the beat. Jake was performing for me, and I was performing for Jake. I wanted him to see me move, I wanted him to wish he could step out and hold me, to move with me.
Soon the floor was a mass of bodies, the party getting started as everyone danced and enjoyed their own moment. I poured more champagne into my glass, taking a break from the floor as Jake continued another set. My whole world was flying high. Nothing could bring me down.
“ Fancy meeting you here, SLUT. Came with your new boytoy too did n’ t you ? ”
My blood went cold, fingers losing grip of my glass, the thin glass shattering quietly on the ground .“ What are you doing here Sean ?” I said, trying to step away from him. His fingers gripped the cloth draped over my shoulder and spun me around.
“ What, you think I’ d just let you make out in the parking lot with some other guy? I had to know where you were going.
“ I t’ s over Sean. You know that . ”
“ I t’ s over when I say i t’ s over .” He replied, a hand slipping over my mouth as he drug me away from the party. I glanced back at the crowd, everyones eyes looking forward and the dance floor too thick to catch glimpse of Jake. I struggled, trying desperately to pull away as I was drug back into the big house. Sean lifted me, carrying me straight in and off to the right toward some stairs, his muscular build hauling me
