honey, I don’t think that’s what he meant,” Cynthia
said from across the room. “Isn’t that right, Master Adrian?” Her tone changed
to a sensual, submissive one. That woman was always a tease.
“I don’t drink when I’m on call.” Adrian turned toward the
door. “What are the other rooms like?”
“Similar with different themes.” Carter opened a built-in
cabinet. “Each room has similar equipment. Floggers, canes, paddles and other
items can be borrowed from the bar, but guests usually bring their own toys.”
“We’ll finish the tour with our guest. She should be here by
now,” Cynthia said. “We’d like you to meet her.”
“Do I know this guest?” Adrian asked.
“A friend of ours. She wanted to visit TropiX and get a tour
of Dark Odyssey, what we’re calling the new addition.” Cynthia didn’t make eye
contact with him. Adrian made a face. He smelled a setup.
“Keep an open mind, Adrian,” Cynthia said with a wicked
smile. “She’s beautiful and she’s wanted to visit TropiX for a long time. She
heard us talk about it on the train. She’s looking for a Dom, someone skilled,
sensitive, patient—”
“You met her on the train?” Adrian laughed, but he didn’t
think it was funny. “How well do you know her?”
Cynthia glared at him. “We’ve known her for months. Give us
some credit for good judgment.”
He raised his hands, giving up. Adrian knew that look. “Let’s
get this over with.” He walked toward the closed door. Looked as if he had a
blind date. Terrific. “A newbie submissive?” he asked.
“Relax, Adrian. Yes, she’s vanilla, a sexually adventurous
vanilla. She has a sincere desire to explore the BDSM lifestyle. Remember what
happened to your experienced sub?” Cynthia argued.
“I don’t train newbies. She’ll have to find another Dom to
break her in.” They only knew part of the drama he had with Jill.
“Fine,” Cynthia snapped. “Maybe you can recommend someone
then. You can at least meet her.”
“Quit it now, you two,” Carter said.
She shrugged and headed down the stairs. Leaving Adrian and
Carter behind. Maybe she was getting the message that he was back but taking
his time about it.
Carter made a tutting sound. “Can’t win a fight with a
Chicago chick. Quit now while you’re ahead, Adrian.”
“I know she means well.” Adrian had to smile at Carter’s
comment, the big Texan with an accent to match.
“I bet you needed a break from pain sluts. You could get
back into the swing with us,” Carter offered, trying to lighten the atmosphere.
Adrian gave a forced chuckle. Apparently Carter didn’t get
the message either. “I don’t have a problem with pain sluts.”
“You must be ready to come back now,” Carter said in a
subtle tone.
“I have missed it, but I have to consider my career, my
reputation. I’m trying to get on staff at the hospital and my chief of staff is
ultraconservative. Maybe Cynthia’s right. It might be better to find a
beautiful vanilla woman than to deal with the stress of trying to find someone
I can trust to be discreet. Jill was not discreet and she liked pain too much,
enough where I could’ve caused permanent damage.”
“You can’t deny who you are.”
“I can’t afford another submissive like Jill,” Adrian
admitted. “Her behavior nearly cost me my job.”
“Fair enough. Let’s go track down my lady.”

Chapter Two

When Adrian walked into the foyer he spotted Cynthia and the
redhead standing next to her. His body immediately responded with a tug in the
gut and a tightening in his groin. She was a tad shorter than Cynthia, which
would put her at about five-seven. The green dress molded to her curvy body,
athletic but not skinny. Fair skin gleamed with a natural glow. He lived in
Florida but he was as pale as some of the snowbirds. Carter was right, he
worked too damn much.
As if she sensed his perusal, she looked his way and made
eye contact. Confident, intelligent eyes,
