note that
while Jax checked the displayed cards at least twice, or more, before he made a
decision for further cards she never really looked at his at all. She appeared
solely interested in where her hand was going.
If I had to take a guess I would say that she was
either psychic, or she could indeed count cards. It wasn’t something I had ever
come across before and had to admit was rather fascinating. She was winning by
a substantial amount, maybe three or four hundred and I had to wonder how long
they’d been playing.
Greg was reaching the end of the deck of cards when Jax
called a halt at the same time laughing. “Shit, girl, that game is just too
fucking nerve racking. Whoever came up with speed Black Jack must have money to
burn and balls of cold steel, because I have to tell you I need to dip mine in
an ice bath right now I’m sweating so badly.” The crowd around the table
laughed at his comment.
I could see that Jax did indeed have noticeable
droplets of sweat beading his brow. The girl on the other hand leaned back in
her seat looking ten times relaxed and smiled. The smile dripped of
sensuality.
My jaw, and dick, twitched involuntarily.
Jax looked up and spotting us spread his arms out
smiling in welcome. “Landon! Seth! Great to see you guys. Hope your summer was
awesome and all that shit. There’s beer in the fridge or cooler if you want
one.”
We did as Jax suggested, grabbing two beers each, and then
snagged the two empty seats at opposite ends of the table that Jax had saved
for us, across from the ‘extra interesting’ new female player. Roman was
cashing out her winnings from the Black Jack game and she slipped the bills
into the purse she had resting on the table.
The crowd had dispersed mostly during the time Landon
and I grabbed our beers except for a few female hanger-on’ers. Besides the one
female at the table the rest of the five players were teammates of ours; Jax,
Landon, me, Roman, and Greg.
“Ladies, you’re going to have to find something else to
do for a couple hours. We don’t like people looking over our shoulders as we
play causing distractions or possibly giving away our hands.” Landon stated
categorically. “So run along and we’ll find you later if we’re interested.”
Looking put out at having to leave, but not necessarily
at having been labeled as inconsequential, they tripped away on their expensive
high heels. The new girl had been watching us with a smile, a rather impassive
smile, but I noticed that her eyes narrowed slightly at Landon’s words.
However, before I could process the expression Landon
turned his attention to her. “Not that I don’t appreciate the view, but when
did we start letting females play?” Landon groused twisting the cap off his
beer.
The female in question maintained her smile, raised the
glass she was drinking from in a salute, and then brought it to her lips to
drink. All three actions were sexy as hell and my dick pulsed in attention
causing my temper to simmer. Watching her play cards may have been fascinating
but I did not want to find her fascinating beyond that. I gulped half my cold
beer in an attempt to cool myself off.
“I think that was around seven months ago when you
invited Carrie to play.” Roman replied with a snort sorting poker chips.
Landon’s beer glass thumped onto the table. I could
tell he was getting tired of hearing about that moment; especially since the
last one was only hours ago. “That was one time and part of an experiment. Can
this girl play anything besides trick games?”
The girl in question, again, only smiled at the slur. I
found myself absorbed by the curve of those pink lips.
“Nadezhda has been a player at quite a few games this
summer while you guys have been gone. She’s good, real good, almost a little
too good.” Greg
