mind-shattering sex she’d had with Carter.
    In his office!
    At Boyd’s!
She glanced at the clock. Six-fifteen. If she left now…
“No!” She pushed her chair back with such force it slammed into the wall behind her. “Shit.”
Inspecting both chair and wall for damage, she breathed deeply several times and counted to five while letting each breath out in a steady stream. She would not let him get to her.
She wasn’t about to admit it was already too late.
Darla had rung earlier and suggested dinner—just the two of them—and while she knew her closest friend needed a shoulder, an ear, she couldn’t bring herself to say yes. Discussing Darla’s new single status would only drive home the lie Virginia had been living for nearly five years.
Carter was the only person other than her lawyer and her ex, who was on the other side of the world, knew she was divorced.
She was such a fraud. Even with her supposed best friend. Breeding had made her secretive of her private life. After the way her parents had splashed their every exploit in the tabloids for the world to see, Virginia had guarded her privacy like a lioness guards her cubs. No one got close.
    Except Carter Boyd.
Now that she looked back she realised she’d let him in with ease. She felt so safe with him. Like she could say or do whatever she wanted and he wouldn’t judge her.
    He hadn’t judged her.
She’d been picking up a different man every time she set foot in his bar and not once had he commented on it. Not once. Instead he’d become her friend—her confidant—and now he’d become her lover.
Her fingers curled around the back of the chair as memory drenched her with arousal. He’d driven her out of her mind and her body and she’d give anything for another night in his arms.
    Anything.
Unlocking her fingers one at a time, Virginia glanced down at the suit she wore. She hadn’t changed after arriving home. Another defence against her need to return to Boyd’s. If she wasn’t dressed for the place then she couldn’t go.
It was a completely stupid attempt to thwart her desire. As if a layer of clothing could stop her if she really wanted to go.
    And she wanted to.
With every fibre of her being she wanted to get in her car and drive the thirty or so minutes and have wall-banging sex with Carter again.
Her keys and bag were on the foyer table. All she had to do was walk over, scoop them up and get in the lift.
She was halfway there before she realised she’d moved. There before her next heartbeat. And out the door and pressing the lift button within one breath.
    ***
Carter looked up when his brother elbowed him. Every drop of oxygen left his lungs and it had nothing to do with his brother’s rough treatment.
    Ginny.
She walked towards him dressed like he’d never seen her before. Her hair was swept up in some fancy bun thing on the side of her head. Pearls circled her throat and he couldn’t help but grin when he realised they hid the hickey he’d given her. The blouse wasn’t tight but it didn’t hide the mouth-watering curves of her ample breasts, and the skirt hugged her hips and thighs like a lover’s hands.
    Like his hands.
He’d had his hands on her there. His cock pulsed—hardened—and pressed against his jeans with remembered pleasure. Not that he hadn’t been hard all damn day thinking about her.
They couldn’t do this here. “Garrett. Take over.” Carter made his way down the bar and met her at the end.
Neither of them spoke as he led the way to the office. He wasn’t sure what she was doing here, but the fact she’d come dressed in her other-life clothes meant one of two things. She was going to give him the ice princess brush off for good. Or she couldn’t wait to get here—to him—to bother changing.
He hoped with everything he had it was the second.
Carter opened the door and motioned her in. He’d barely shut the door when she was on him. Her mouth ate at his—her tongue licking at him, her
