money. But to those who knew the signs, it was apparent that Carter was doing more than all right for himself.
“Here.” He held out a cloth. “Let me clean you up.”
“Oh my God, are you for real?” Virginia pushed his hand away. “I’ll just use the bathroom.”
She strode past him, her head high, and tried not to look at the man. He was still naked. Still hard. And Virginia’s eyes seemed to have a mind of their own because they zeroed right in on that erection like it was the first and last thing they’d ever see.
Her throat constricted. Her pussy too. God, the man was built. Gloriously long and thick and she’d had that inside her… Before she could give in and ask for a do-over, Virginia forced her head away and her feet to move.
Closing the door between them, she leaned back against it and took a deep breath. How the hell was she going to find the strength to walk away from him?
    ***
Carter scrubbed a hand down his face. He wasn’t sure what to do now. Put his clothes on? He would except Ginny’s were tangled with his on the floor, which meant she’d come out of the bathroom naked and he didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable by covering up before her.
He was treading on eggshells and he knew it. One wrong move and she’d bolt and never come back. Contrary to what his brothers said, he wasn’t stupid where women were concerned. He’d never have been dumb enough to walk away if he were married to her, that’s for sure. What kind of fuckwit had she married?
The door opened a crack. “Would you mind passing me my clothes please?” Her voice was crisp, a tone he’d never heard before, and he had to assume it was the one she used in her everyday life.
“Sure.” Carter gathered up her things, trying not to crumple them any more than they already were. He walked over and held them out. “Here.”
“Thank you.” The door snapped shut.
“Oo-kay then.” Well, that solved one problem. He scooped up his jeans and shirt. No point being the only naked one.
He was dressed and leaning his arse against his desk—the one he’d just fucked Ginny on—when she emerged from behind the shut door. He watched her for a moment and realised if he didn’t say something, she wasn’t going to. “You okay?” he asked.
“Yes. Why wouldn’t I be?” There was that frosty tone again.
Carter wondered if she used it as a shield to keep people away. He figured a lot of people wouldn’t approach her on looks alone, but when she opened that mouth and formed words dripping with ice…well, it would take someone with a thick hide or a thick head to keep coming at her.
He shrugged. “No reason. Just wanted to make sure you were okay.”
    “You promised no questions.”
    “What?”
“You said you’d stop asking questions so we could have hot, sweaty, no strings sex.”
Carter laughed. He couldn’t help it. And when she arched a brow and looked down her nose at him he only laughed harder. Obviously not the reaction she was after.
“Really.” She spun on her heel and headed for the door.
Oh no. Not happening. He lunged forward, grabbed her wrist and spun her back. “Before you go.” Carter smashed his mouth to hers.
He took them deep. Thrusting his tongue between her lips he left no room for protest. He took. He conquered. He devoured.
And when he was done he lifted his head and stared her straight in the eyes. “See you later.”
    ***
    See you later.
See you later? What the hell was that? Did he think they would hook up again?
A shiver rolled over her. God, she wanted to. Against all her better judgement she wanted another go-round with Carter. Hell, she wanted a hundred. Even then it might not be enough.
She’d spent the day brooding about their encounter. She should have been going over the inventory for the boutiques, heaven forbid there not be enough designer handbags and handcrafted jewellery to cover the coming Christmas shopping period, but all she could think about was the
