easy on the eyes. He didn’t have the bad boy image I was obviously drawn to, but tonight was a clear example of why Carter was a risk. I couldn’t let him control my mind like he did before, and I was going to live this summer for me.
Since Katie wasn’t drinking much, she ended up driving four of us home. She had me and Lauren, Chase and his friend Ryan that Lauren was flirting with. I was sitting next to Chase in the car, and couldn’t help but notice how fresh and clean he smelled, like cologne and soap. Nothing like Carter, who smelled masculine. I shouldn’t even be sitting here comparing the two, since I had no intentions on seeing Carter again. We pulled in my driveway and I was the first person to be dropped off. Chase got out of the car and held the door open, and I stepped out. I had given him my number in the car but I didn’t want him to make a move or try to come in. As I stepped out I noticed Carter standing by his bike, parked in front of the garage. I wasn’t sure if anyone else could notice him, so I didn’t say anything, and instead waved and trotted up the walkway.
As the car pulled out of the driveway I walked up to Carter, wondering what he wanted. “Where in the fuck have you been, it’s damn near 3 in the morning” he questioned, and then he stood up and walked towards me. I slowed my strides, wondering how long he had been there waiting for me to arrive. “I’ve been out … how long have you been waiting here and why?” I said, opening the garage door, but not walking inside. “I talked to Pat, the bartender, so tell your friend to find a new guy, I don’t ever want to see any of you girls at that bar again. That bar is used for business purposes, the three of you were fucking in danger. I had to make sure you made it home and no one followed you, I’ve been sitting here for hours.” He shouted. He looked like he was ready to lose it. “I’m sorry” was all I could get out, and I wasn’t sure where to go from here.
I headed to the house door from the garage, not saying another word. He had no right to follow me home or wait for me, especially after how he treated me last night. As I reached for the door handle he called after me. “So that’s it?” he asked, waiting for a response. I didn’t know what to say. I turned around in the doorway, looking at him. “What do you want from me Carter, you thought that you could come here and get some again, and use me like you did when I was a kid?” I lashed back. I couldn’t even believe that I said it but it was already out of my mouth.
“Please, you started hooking up with me and then you decided to go to school far away to get away from me” he answered, walking towards me. “You showed up tonight to prove what? That I couldn’t have you?” he continued starting to raise his voice. I walked into the house, not wanting to draw attention from the neighbors, and he followed me in. He shut the garage the door, and I continued to walk through the kitchen to the family room. I leaned against the couch, trying not to think about him having me under him on it last night.
“I was at the bar because Lauren was invited by the bartender guy, Pat.” I explained, crossing my arms against my chest. I saw him looking at the hem of my jean skirt, and at the low plunging line of my red tank top. “I had no idea that you were going to be there, trust me, or I wouldn’t have showed up” I added. He looked angry with me, and I didn’t understand why. “I can’t stand here and not touch you” he said as he leaned towards me. I moved out of the way.
I couldn’t get caught up in his touch again, and I couldn’t let him take control of me. I headed to bar in the basement to get a drink, hoping he wouldn’t follow me down the stairs. He did, I felt him gaining ground on me. I kicked off my sandals and went right to the freezer, pulling out a
