with a few hanging lights, and there were outdated beer lights and old Play Boy posters on the walls. I almost want to laugh it was such a scene. The three of us girls stood out like a sore thumb, drawing the attention of everyone in there. There was a group of guys wearing matching leather jackets in the back corner in some booths, and I assumed they were part of a gang.
We ordered beers and we were given cans, I assumed they couldn’t afford bottles or didn’t want to deal with the broken glass if there were fights. Lauren flirted, and I tried my best not to tough anything. After we were halfway through our second beer, I heard and felt rumbles coming in from outside. I froze, and instantly knew what the sound was. It was the sound of motorcycles, and I instantly feared who may come walking through the door. What are the odds?
I didn’t have to look when the door opened, I instantly felt his presence. I was tense all over; I didn’t want him to think I was following him. I should have known this wasn’t a good idea when Lauren suggested it, and I was seriously doubting her taste in men considering where we were.
“What the hell are you doing here” I heard Carter question behind me, he sounded furious. I turned around to look at him, almost knocked out by the sight of him. He was wearing loose fitting distressed jeans that hung low on his hips, and a plain black t-shirt that was tight around his biceps. His tattoos were complimented by the black leather vest he wore, and he had a bandana on his head. He was towering over me with rage in his eyes. “You girls need to get the fuck out of out here” he commanded, and Lauren and Katie also looked scared.
The bar tender looked up, realizing he made an obvious mistake inviting us there. That’s when it hit me that Carter was probably there on business. That meant we were in the middle of a transaction that was about to go down, or we were in serious danger. I felt Carter’s hand grab my arm and pull me up off the stool. “Avery get out of here now” He said again, closer to my ear so he didn’t cause more of a scene. I headed to the door, with Katie and Lauren following me. There were about five guys escorting us to our car, and I saw Carter go to the guys in the back of the bar.
We were all shaking when we got in the door and locked the doors, tearing off before even buckling. “Holy shit that was crazy” Lauren stated, none of us really knowing what to say. “I’m going to say that the bar tender isn’t worth it” I added, looking out the window. We all laughed, even though we all realized how serious the situation was. “This is why I don’t leave the city” Katie explained, and I had to agree with her.
We decided to hit a local Oceanside bar with people we knew, bouncers and cell service. We strolled in, and we actually felt a little underdressed. I was fine with my outfit, I preferred not to draw attention to myself anyways. Lauren on the other hand, she was reapplying lip gloss every few seconds. We all start drinking and recognized a group of guys we had met on the beach earlier in the week. Everyone was talking and laughing, and soon we forgot about our scary encounter just hours before.
I looked at the preppy and beachy guys around me, wearing designer shirts, polos and warm weather attire, and compared them to Carter. He looked so manly, so aggressive at the bar, and I wondered if that was how he normally dressed. When our parents were married, his father always wanted him to be more mature, dress nicer, act differently, and follow in his entrepreneur footsteps. He instead wanted to run around with his friends in his hometown, cause trouble and ignore his father.
A very polite guy named Chase had been conversing with me all night, and he majored in Communications and Broadcasting, so we talked about media and journalism and the Internet, and where the industry was headed. It was nice to talk with someone who shared my interests, and he was
