of a low-hanging tree and the thick growth of a number of bushes.
“Come around here,” he insisted in a soft undertone, leading
her farther away from the others.
“We aren’t doing anything wrong,” she replied, keeping her
voice low.
“That has never stopped gossip getting around and ruining
innocent reputations.”
The low sound of a masculine voice came toward them before Zahra
could argue further. Although she couldn’t hear the words spoken, something
about the tone and inflection in the sound rang a bell in her head.
“I didn’t think you’d ever get us out of there either,” the
witch said.
Zahra didn’t know if the other woman simply spoke more
loudly or whether her voice carried better than the wizards’. Either way, her
words were unmistakable.
“Do you really know all the most secretive places?” the
witch continued. “Or was that just an excuse to drag me out here?”
The wizard replied, but again she couldn’t hear what he
said, only the tone of his voice. Zahra craned her neck, catching a glimpse of
warm brown hair and a set of very familiar brown eyes. Miles had his face
buried in the witch’s cleavage, his tongue doing sensual things to her nipple.
Zahra’s jaw dropped and a strangled gasp escaped before Rob
swore and pulled her farther back into the deep shadows of the thick bushes. No
wonder she couldn’t make out Miles’s words, with his mouth so busy in there!
Tears filled her eyes as the image burned itself onto Zahra’s
retinas. She no longer had any doubts whether Miles might be intimate with the
sultry brunette with the long curls. Their body language had been explicit,
those of long-term lovers well used to one another. Zahra turned around,
wanting to flee the garden and hide somewhere far, far away.
Dimly she heard the other witch speaking. The words seemed
muffled to Zahra’s ears, as if they came from far away or something blocked
them from being clearly audible. Shrugging her shoulders, she tried to slip Rob’s
grip, but his hands tightened on her.
“Don’t, sunshine, they’re moving past us,” he whispered in
her ear.
Pressing a hand to her mouth, Zahra tried to get a hold of
herself. A few tears leaked from her eyes, but she managed to keep from
bursting out in sobs. A million questions raced through her mind as she
struggled to come to grips with his betrayal.
How long had Miles been cheating on her? Was there more than
one witch? Why hadn’t he broken up with her, if he so obviously didn’t love or
respect her?
Rob cupped his hand around her jaw and tilted her chin up.
“Shhh,” he soothed her.
Only then did she hear the ragged pants of her breaths and
feel her heart pounding in her rib cage. Blinking hard, swearing she’d not waste
a single more tear on the cheating asshole who used to be her boyfriend, Zahra
nodded to indicate she’d be okay.
Tenderly, Rob wiped at the remaining tears that ran down her
face. Suddenly, her heart pounded for an entirely different reason. His eyes
seemed to come alive, the dark-green depths shining with his magic and lust.
Rob’s palms were warm where they cupped her jaw on either side. He seemed about
to say something, but she worried it would be something soothing, some form of
denial of what they had both seen.
She didn’t want to hear it. Not one word.
Rising up onto her tiptoes, she still barely reached above
his shoulder. Lifting her hands, she brought his head down to meet hers and
kissed him passionately. Her fingers threaded through the silky strands of hair
as his black strands mingled with her straw-blonde curls. Zahra cupped the back
of his skull and opened her mouth, teasing the outside of his lips as she urged
him to open for her.
A strangled moan was emitted as he complied. Hastily she thrust
her tongue inside him, relishing the intoxicating rush as she tasted the scotch
he’d evidently drunk earlier. Pressing her curves flush along the length of his
body, Zahra unleashed every wicked,
