Dancing and singing
in front of the mirror was not out of the ordinary, even at
eighteen. She’d been play acting in front of the mirror since she
could remember. Ever since she saw the wizard of oz when she six,
she would pretend she was Dorothy and that’s when she knew what she
wanted to do with her life.
It was a quarter to eleven
and sleep had come a little earlier than expected. She yawned a few
times as she finished brushing her hair and then flopped down on
her bed just as she did a few hours ago when she got home from
school. The lamp and radio were still on. She was too tired to get
up and turn them off. She liked listening to music before she went
to sleep. As she laid on her bed and stared at her ceiling fan
spinning around, her eyes grew heavy with an oncoming sleep. Left
over thoughts from the day sifted through her mind. The annoying
buzzing alarm clock, almost being late to school, the fight in the
hallway, Liz sticking French fries up her nose at lunchtime, the
stupid math exam, worrying about graduating, the playground she
drove past earlier, the wonderful aroma of pot roast, the hot water
massaging her back in her shower, the stones, her lovely large
breasts. Her breathing slowed to a relaxing pace and her chest
moved slowly up and down as sleep fell upon her. Her eyes closed
shut and then one final thought went through her mind; I hope they say yes.

There were at least fifteen or more
kids standing in the hallway Monday morning at school, trying to
get a good look at the tac board displaying a white sheet of paper
that would decide their fate, that being no graduation or summer
school. Megan was one of them but was caught in the middle,
knocking shoulders with the other anxious teens. She felt like a
sardine.
The weekend had passed by like a fast
moving storm and within a blink of her eye Monday was already here.
Too soon. All weekend long she had those damn knots of worry still
attacking her stomach despite helping her dad wash his truck
Saturday morning and going with her mom to Tina’s in Bludenhale to
get her eyebrows and nails done and going bowling Saturday night
with her parent’s and little brother and her aunt and uncle and
then to eat at Denny’s. She even managed to squeeze in some much
needed alone girl time with herself when she finally caved and
masturbated Sunday night. If no one had been home she would’ve
screamed her pretty little head off because she hadn’t had an
orgasm in two weeks and it felt so damn fucking good. Her wrist
took the brunt of her feel good time in order to keep quiet. It
left bite marks.
She made her best effort to zero in on
her name that she prayed was on the list. As she got closer she
squint her eyes to see the tiny print, but still saw nothing. Her
palms were damp with sweat. There was an odd sound of both laughter
and crying in the crowd. Only the names of the people who passed
their exams were on the list. If your name wasn’t on the list you
were told to go see the guidance counselor for further
instructions, but really that meant your ass was going to summer
school, because instead of studying for finals you were too busy on
facebook or pinterest or twitfuck or eating pussy or getting your
pussy ate for the first time.
Some kids were shouting with joy and
high fiving each other while others were holding their heads down
bawling their eyes out.
Megan finally made it to the
front to where she could see. Her big brown eyes followed the list
of names going down the sheet. And then she inhaled a gasp and
almost wet herself when she saw her name on the second row of
names. She felt like crying but held in her elation just
temporarily. Thankyouthankyouthankyou
Conner, I love you. Did I just think
that? She thought.
    She ran down the hall
forgetting the no running rule (yes, even in high school) to Liz’s
home room, 103. She blitzed right past it and then quickly turned
around and went inside trying to hold in the scream of joy she
wanted to let out
