Somebody was gonna get hit alright, but she was protecting the wrong person. It is her that was in danger of feeling the flat of my hand across her ass.
“Joseph go put Storm up, I’ll deal with you later, and don’t think you’re off the hook, you should know fucking better.”
“Yes sir Mr. Lawton, it won’t happen again.” Poor sap, she probably hit him with one of those sneaky smiles of hers to make him stupid.
“What were you doing on that horse, do you know you could’ve broken your damn neck?”
“But I didn’t, see, I’m fine.” She twirled around in front of me like she thought it was a joke.
“I forbid you to get on that horse again. If you want to ride I’ll find you a mare to ride but my horse is off limits.”
“I don’t want a mare I want to ride Storm.”
“And I said no, what the fuck?”
“Fine, is there anything else that I’m not allowed to do? Anything else of yours that’s off limits to your annoying wife?”
“You’re not my...for fuck sake don’t start that shit again.” Her lip was trembling again like she was about to turn on the waterworks.
“Fine, may I leave now?” She composed herself but refused to look at me. I found that I didn’t like that one bit. Neither did I like the way we seemed to be always fighting these days.
Why couldn’t she stay shy and sweet? Why did she have to go and change shit? Just like a damn female.
“No there’s nothing else, just, the next time you’re going somewhere let me know first. I have shit to do, I can’t spend my days hunting you down making sure that you’re okay.”
I was being a dick I know, but what the fuck did she want from me? I was doing everything I could to keep her safe, from me as well as whatever else her father was cooking up.
Why couldn’t she see that and work with me? For some reason, ever since the priest had performed his little ceremony she’s been acting like she’d lost her damn mind.
She walked away with her shoulders slumped and I felt like a first class bastard. I started to go after her, but what was the point?
She wasn’t for me, nor I her. I wasn’t the kind of man to wine and dine a woman with roses and bullshit, and that’s probably what they’d prepared her for in that fancy boarding school that that asshole had paid for.
I let her go and headed back to the clubhouse, Storm didn’t need any more exercise.

DANA
He doesn’t want me, fine. I was so mad I could spit, but instead I walked away before I punched Mr. High and Mighty in the kisser.
I’ve never known a human being to get me this mad. I don’t see what the problem is. He needed someone to look after him and I am his wife, no matter how that came about.
I’ve talked to Melissa and she seemed to think that if he didn’t really want me he could’ve found another way. She sounded very convincing, to the point that I started believing the same thing. But he sure wasn’t acting like he wanted me around.
Well I’ll just show Mr. Lawton. He doesn’t want me around? Fine by me. I went back to his place long enough to grab some stuff and then went to Kyle and Melissa’s.
Those two have the strangest relationship. When you first get to know them, it seems like they argue like cats and dogs.
She tries to rule him, he ignores her, and they yell and scream and make up. I’ve seen this played out more times than I can count in the short time that I’d been here.
I had a strong feeling that my decision to move in with them was going to cause another one of their arguments, but what else was I supposed to do?
There is no way I was staying where I wasn’t wanted, and it will be a cold day in hell before I ever speak to Lawton Daniels again.
I have a mind to...yes, that’s exactly what I’ll do. I took the rings off before I changed my mind or chickened out.
Melissa had told me they belonged to Lawton’s grandmother and that must mean that he was serious about our vows. Hah, obstinate, pigheaded
