love.
“Alaura, do you know what you’ve done to me?” he whispered
against her ear.
“No. Tell me.” For months, she’d thought she’d only been a
burden to him and his pack. She’d selfishly stayed with them, soaking up their
generosity. Now, she couldn’t imagine living without them—especially the man
lying underneath her, stroking her back as aftershocks rocked her body.
“You’ve made me fall in love with you.” He braced her jaw
and lifted her head until she could meet his determined blue eyes.
Her throat clogged with emotion and her eyes stung with
tears. “What?”
“I love you, Alaura. And I want you to be my mate. I want to
settle into our new home in our new land, and I want you to be mine. Only
mine.”
“Shaw.” She swallowed the painful lump in her throat and her
eyes burned with the threat of tears.
“I’ll always be loyal and respectful. I’ll always keep you
safe from harm. I swear it.” His brows bunched together. “Do you believe me?
Have I not proved my love for you?”
“Yes,” she finally forced herself to say. “Yes, I believe
you. And I love you too, with every inch of my heart and soul. You have no
idea.”
He grinned wide, showing a dimple on his left cheek that
she’d never noticed before. “So you’ll be my mate?”
“Are you sure you want that? I’m human and I’ll only live as
long as my body and fate allows it. You don’t age, Shaw. I do.”
“I’ve heard of many wonderful things that have happened in
Paqualette. The queen herself has turned Were with the help of a coven of
witches. There’s hope you could live a longer life than I would.”
“And if not?” She braced herself for disappointment.
“Then I’ll still have you as my mate. I’m yours and you’re
mine,” he said, saying the simple mating words she’d heard once before when two
in his pack had gone through the ceremony. “Say it back to me and make me a
happy man, love.”
Shaw was her soulmate, there was no doubt. And she’d do
everything she could to make him happy for the rest of her life—no matter how
short or long.
“I’m yours and you’re mine,” she replied, smiling so large
her cheeks hurt.
“Yes, you are.” He kissed her lips. “Forever.”
