me, “Sorry, babe. But once I got to know her, found out she didn't have a brain, and was a robot, it was off. All she could talk about was clothes, Brad Pitt, clothes, Brad Pitt, and...”
“Clothes,” both Mitch and I answered.
“Right. Anyway, better fly before I'm late and get into trouble once again. See ya’s at lunch.”
He ran two doors down where he had Science, as Mitch and I walked into Social Studies.

At lunch, Mitch, Javis, and I walked into the loud, already-busy cafeteria. After grabbing some lunch, we headed to our usual table where Jessie and Massie were seated. As I walked over, I noticed Jessie’s somewhat eager expression. I rolled my eyes; she must already have known who my history partner was.
“Princess Puff Cake, you seem to have caught not only Mr Charming’s attention, but Miss Evil’s as well,” Mitch casually said.
I glanced out the corner of my eye to the far corner where all the popular kids hung out, and for some reason, as soon as I saw Kane staring at me, my heart jumped and my stomach started with those annoying butterfly feelings. That was until in the same second, I saw Donna sending her deadly glare my way. If looks could kill, I would be dead. I had no idea what for though. It wasn’t like she should feel threatened by me; Kane and I had only met today. No sparks flew when it happened.
“Sky? Sky, come on! Tell all. How lucky are you to get Mr Hottie?” Jessie exclaimed while grabbing my hand and dragging me into the seat next to her.
“I wouldn't say he was hot,” I said. Maybe good-looking, but not hot.
“I'd have to agree with you there, Sky. He does nothing for me,” Massie mumbled around a mouthful of sandwich.
“Me neither,” Mitch said. Jessie glared at him.
“So fill me in; what did he say? Does he sound nice? Or is he a richy and thinks he's too good to talk to you? Come on, spill.”
“He seems okay. We talked about the assignment, and that’s all of it summed up.”
“You're kidding, right? The first chance you have him away from the evil one and you talk about the assignment?”
“Jess, there is nothing else I would want to say to him. Now, let’s drop the subject and eat; I’m starved.”
She harrumphed, but did as I asked.
“So, plans for the weekend?” Massie asked, since she was the first to finish her lunch.
“It's only Monday, girl. How can I think that far ahead?” Javis smirked.
“True, your brain is only capable of one thing at a time.” Jessie laughed. “Well, as you know, Sky and I are going to the fair on Saturday...”
“Not without me you ain't,” Mitch growled.
“Keep your knickers on, boy. You can come. And you too, if you want,” Jessie said to Javis.
“I can't go so early now,” I said, and then shut my mouth quickly.
          “Why-y-y?” Jessie drawled.
I sighed. “My history partner wants to meet up Monday nights and Saturday mornings to do as much work as we can get done. Because Mr. Big-and-Strong needs a good grade and is worried I won't pull my own weight in this assignment,” I said quickly.
          “Mr. Big-and-Strong, hey?” she teased.
“Really? That’s all you got out of what I just said?” I complained.
“Yeah, and that you’ll be spending quiet time alone with him. Oh, oh, oh! You have to let me come. Please say I can come with you.”
“No,” both Mitch and I said at the same time. Then I added, “For one, we will be doing work while alone together, so we can't have distractions like you panting all over him. And two, come Friday, you'll be busy enough with your own history partner.”
She pouted at me. “Yeah, all right.”
