declared in a sassy tone.
âBy doing what exactly?â Cassidy sounded a bit suspicious. Based on Devonâs recent history, Bryn felt a little suspicious too. Devon certainly had a flair for trouble. To be fair, Devon had been trying to turn things around these past few months. Still, Bryn knew that Devon was Devon and more than a little unpredictable at times.
âIâm not suggesting anything stupid or disgusting or illegal,â Devon said a bit defensively. âI just thought going somewhere that was sunny and warmâwith some of my girlfriendsâwell, it might be fun.â Then she broke into an old song from the eighties, âGirls Just Wanna Have Fun.â
The rest of them attempted to sing along, but no one really knew the lyrics, and before long the song ended.
âI think going to a warm, sunny place with girlfriends sounds fun.â Bryn turned on her windshield wipers as raindrops began to splatter down.
âAccording to the weather forecast this rain is supposed to turn into snow later tonight,â Cassidy informed them.
Everyone let out a groan.
âThis is like the never-ending winter,â Abby complained.âAnd track practice starts up next week. At this rate, I should buy snowshoes instead of running shoes.â
âSee why we need to go someplace warm for spring break? Just imagine hanging by a pool, soaking up some sun, eating junk food, relaxing with your friends,â Devon said persuasively. âBy the way, does anyone have a grandma with a cool condo or beach house, something in a warm place?â
After it was confirmed that none of them had any snowbird relatives with houses to loan, Bryn decided to broach another subject. Something sheâd been thinking about for a week or so. âSpring break is only three weeks off . . . but has anyone been paying any attention to the date for prom this year?â Bryn was pretty sure that sheâd be the only one aware of this date, but she waited, just in case.
âI think I heard it was sometime in April,â Devon tossed out.
âApril 17 to be specific,â Bryn clarified. âWhich is seven weeks away.â
âYouâre already counting how many weeks until prom?â Abby asked Bryn. And then she laughed. âOf course, why should that surprise me? Youâre probably already making up a campaign to be prom queen.â
âI am not!â Bryn narrowed her eyes. âThatâs totally ridiculous.â Okay, maybe not totally. But it sure wasnât anything Bryn intended to admit to.
âSo whatâs the big deal then?â Cassidy asked. âWhy are you talking about prom all of a sudden? Have you been asked or something?â
âNo, of course not.â Bryn turned the carâs heat up a notch. âI seriously doubt that anyoneâs been asked yet. But itâs not too early to start thinking about it. Because, as Devon pointedout, itâs spring break in three weeks. That means that by the time we get back from spring break it will be only three weeks until prom. Three weeks is not a long time.â
âA long time for what?â Cassidy asked. âSeriously, whatâs the big deal? Itâs just another dance. Why would anyone need more than three weeks?â
âTo prepare for prom.â Bryn wasnât surprised that Cass would turn into a wet blanket regarding prom. But what about the others? âSeriously, is there anyone in this car who doesnât want to go to prom this year?â
âIs this turning into a DG meeting?â Cassidy asked. âBecause if it is, it seems like Emma and Felicia should be present.â
âAnd speaking of DG, what about Amanda?â Devon asked. âI realize weâve kinda backed off on DG events lately. But is Amanda still in or not?â
The truth was that the DGâas far as a dating clubâhad quieted down considerably since Christmas. Oh, they had
