him.”

“It’s Ok.” Tomas said shrugging his shoulders happily. “There’s still time.”

Dahlia waved him off and went on setting up her section.

It was a slower day than usual at the café, but still plenty of business moved through the doors to keep her busy. She had almost forgotten about the night before when her phone vibrated in her pocket. Without a thought for the sales man, Dahlia grabbed the purple case while she was pushing through the kitchen for an order.

“TEXT ME.” Was all it said.

Dahlia felt the impact in her stomach. Oh yeah, last night had happened. She put her phone on airplane mode, and went back to the dishes, bowls of soup, martini’s and cups of coffee. When the shift ended, her phone sat dead silent with its electronic gag still in place. As she peeled off the uniform that smelled of salad dressing and chai tea, she set her phone on the counter in the ladies room and looked at it.

    Had he called?

She snatched the phone and allowed it to reconnect to the outside world. No calls. No more texts. Now she felt herself wanting to contact him. If nothing else, just to know what happened next.

“I’M DONE WITH WORK ARE YOU AROUND?”

“AT THE COFFEE SHOP” came the reply.

Dahlia waived at Tomas as she headed for the door. She didn’t stop to chat. For the entire two blocks on her way to the coffee shop, she was imagining what she’d say, how she’d stand and what she would do if he asked her to spend the night with him. It was only two blocks, but she thought she’d run a hundred scenarios by the time she had reached the doors. She didn’t get in line. She didn’t even want a coffee, because there, in the back corner where they had sat the night before a neatly dressed business man with a tailored suit that hugged broad shoulders sat . . . without any coffee.

He stood up to meet her and moved her toward the door like he had somewhere important to go.

“Can I give you a ride?”

He said as his door locks beeped by the sidewalk.

    “Sure, where are we going?”

“To share some things.” He said with a little smile. “I think we’ve got a lot of sharing to do tonight.”

Dahlia smiled nervously. In all the scenarios she had run in her head, he hadn’t said that in any of them.

“Oh, where did she go?” Devin looked at her disappointment in his big innocent eyes.

“What?” Dahlia said confused and maybe just a tiny bit offended.

“My beautiful wonder woman from last night. She’s gone, and here is a frightened girl in her place.”

Dahlia glared at the wheel of the car.

“Just get in.” he said with a bit of a sigh. “I can fix this.”

The hotel wasn’t very far away and it seemed silly to drive, but his power suit and sleek black power car seemed like such a match that Dahlia wondered if he drove just because he could. In silence they took the elevator to the 14 th floor of the hotel and made their way to his room. He tossed the tailored jacket carelessly across the back of a chair and led her into the living room area where he sat on one of the couches.

“Have a seat.” He said. Again not asking.

Dahlia sat, but was not happy with how this was going.

“Last night I was with a stunningly powerful woman. Confident, sexual, self-assured. This morning, you tip toe around, avert your eyes and act like you’re ashamed.”

Devin moved toward her and kneeled in front of her so that he was looking right into her eyes. “I’m going to tell you what it is that men crave by telling you what I crave. It applies to women too, but it’s more complicated then.”

Dahlia held his eye contact and nodded seriously. “Ok. . .” she waited.

“I want you to show me, and I think you’ll understand.”

    “What? Show you what?”

He gripped her by the hips and puller her until she was lying on the couch with her knees bent and feet on the
