her.
Knowing she wouldn’t recover from such a twist of fate, Leah clung to him. She pressed her cheek against his muscled chest, feeling his warmth, and breathing in the scent of cologne mixed with masculinity. She ran her palms up his back to his shoulders.
Gianni lifted her chin. “Are you okay?”
Leah’s mind whirred with emotion. “Yes…I mean…I was.”
He leaned down and kissed her softly. The feel of his soft lips sent a tingle through her. Leah put her hand on the back of his head, and pressed into the kiss harder. As long as they were touching, Gianni was real. He was there.
He took her hand and sat in a chair, pulling her onto his lap. “Tell me. What is it?”
Leah shook her head. “I just…don’t know.”
Gianni touched his fingertips to her cheek.
“I just don’t know what I’d do if I lost you,” she said.
He placed his palms on her cheeks. “Who said anything about losing me?”
Leah smiled. His calm demeanor reassured her. “It’s what I wanted for so long, you know.” She paused to gather her thoughts. “I dreamed of the day when you’d say you loved me. And now you have.”
Gianni frowned. “Why is that distressing you?”
“It’s not,” Leah said. “Or not in the way you think. Your love means everything to me. And that’s just it.”
“You’ll have to explain.”
“As long as we pretended it was just sexual between us, it wouldn’t have been so crushing if we broke up.” Leah combed her hand through her hair. “That’s not what I mean exactly.”
“Take your time. I’m listening.”
“It would have been just as devastating to break up then as now,” she said.
“But we aren’t breaking up,” Gianni said. “We are more committed than we have been before.”
“Exactly.” Leah looked into his eyes. “And that’s what scares me. To have so much, and lose it.” She paused. “I wouldn’t survive it. I know I wouldn’t.”
“You won’t have to.”
“But you don’t know,” she said. “You mean so much to me.”
Gianni’s eyes sparkled. “No more than you mean to me.”
“I trust you, and I know you mean that.” She bit her lip. “But what if something happened? Something we didn’t expect, or couldn’t control. Or…”
“Or what?”
Leah took a breath. “What if I disappoint you in some way…as your submissive? I wouldn’t want to. But it could happen.”
Gianni smiled. “Is that what this is about?”
“I don’t know. For some reason it scares me to have so much to lose.”
He hugged her close, pressing Leah’s cheek to his chest. For a few moments, neither spoke. The fear knotting Leah’s stomach began to subside.
Gianni kissed her cheek, her temple, and then her lips. “You think you are in this alone? You have my heart, baby. I’m not going anywhere. It’s new. It’s a risk. But it’s what we both want.”
“Yes, it is. But you aren’t worried?”
He leaned back and looked thoughtful for a moment. “My life wouldn’t be complete without you, baby. Any reservations I had, I’ve left behind. We will do this together. Just trust me.”
Leah smiled. “I do trust you. I guess your love just sweeps my off my feet. I have no defense. I’m completely vulnerable.”
Gianni’s steely look thrilled her. “That is how I want you.”
The playroom instantly came to mind. Leah had no doubt that was what he meant. “I want you too.” That was all she wanted. To be naked and in his arms. To have Gianni take her. Leah wanted it more than anything.
His tone changed. “Go to the playroom now. Undress and wait for me.”
His command flooded her body with warmth. Leah slid off his lap and went to the room. The feel of the space wrapped around her, offering sensuality with a shade of the forbidden. She undressed and put her clothes in the cabinet.
Naked, she kneeled on the rug to wait. A tinge of anxiety rose in her belly. Leah wasn’t sure what he would do. Lately, he had been challenging her more. She
