hear all about your fabulous one. Cheer me up! Confess! I want to hear everything . Did you meet any hot young actors? Dance on table tops? Make a naughty video? Paige Crane in Girls Gone Wild Part Thirty ! Go to any fun parties? Camille must get tons of invitations.â
âYes, she does, but she didnât share any of them with me.â
âHow come?â
âShe never asked me. She either went by herself or with whoever the latest boyfriend of the week was. I think the new oneâs name is Bruno, but that could have changed since I left.â
âDid you ask her if you could tag along?â
âNo.â
âWell, duh!â Anthony took a sip of his daiquiri. âHow would she know that you wanted to go if you didnât tell her?â
âWhy should I have to ask? Besides, the parties donât matter. I just wanted to spend time with her. Thatâs why I flew out there!â
âDid you tell her that?â
âWhy should I? She should know. Sheâs my mother!â
âPaige, sweetie, Iâve met your mother. Sheâs such a diva. So over the top. Big hair. Big clothes. Big jewelry. Big ego. Sheâs into herself and the character she plays on TV. I think she just needs to be reminded that sheâs supposed to be doing Mom-like things.â
âNext time she calls Iâll tell her I need a dozen cupcakes for the school bake sale,â Paige said dryly. âI can just see her becoming the new Betty Crocker. Not.â
âLook, I know Camille is never going to be Mother of the Year, but cut her a little slack. Sheâs not that bad.â
âI suppose youâre right,â Paige grudgingly admitted. âItâs just that Iâm still mad at her! I spent the entire summer by myself.â
âThen why didnât you call me ?â Anthony demanded. âMisery loves company. We could have consoled each other.â
âI didnât want to spoil things for you and Ian. I knew youâd be worried about me and probably insist that I fly out.â
âThatâs exactly what I would have done.â Anthony shook his head. âWeâre both two of a kind. Here I thought we were going to be like Sandy and Danny in Grease , telling each other about our hot summer nights. Instead they were lonely summer nights. Okay, new promise. You ready?â
âReady.â
âWhen we go off to college next year, we talk or e-mail each other every day. Deal?â
âDeal!â
âSo you want to take a look at the outside?â
Paige nodded and followed Anthony out of the kitchen, daiquiri in hand, eager to see his decorations. Anthonyâs parties always had some great theme.
âWhat do you think?â Anthony asked, throwing open the French doors that led outside to the penthouse deck.
âWow! I thought you said this wasnât going to be one of your usual extravaganzas.â
âI lied.â
Anthony had transformed his deck into a Hawaiian paradise. There were palm trees with coconuts, pineapples and bananas on their branches, lush orchids and other tropical-looking flowers, thatched huts, tiki torches and piles of white sand everywhere. There was even a roasted pig turning on a spit!
âHow did you do all this on such short notice?â Paige asked.
Anthony flipped out his cell phone. âThereâs a prop shop that my parents use when they have their fashion shows. I gave them a call and told them I needed whatever they had that was Hawaiian.â
âThey even had the pig?â
âThe caterer provided that. Iâm good with putting together munchies, but thatâs about it. You know I canât cook to save my life. Weâre going to have a chef whoâs going to barbecue burgers and hot dogs and chicken. And heâll also slice up the pig.â
âIs that the ocean I hear?â Paige asked, still amazed by what she was seeing.
âItâs a sound
