a 25% chance to win…
The waitress comes back with our shot, setting it gently down onto the tray of empty glasses. “So are you two lovebirds here to enter the contest?”
Lovebirds? Us? How’d she get that idea? I open my mouth to explain that we’re stepbrother and stepsister and therefore we definitely won’t be getting married, but instead I just say “Uh…”
The waitress smiles at me. “Because if you are, I could put in a good word for you. You seem like you could really use a vacation.”
I guess I must have been ranting a little too loud.
“What do you mean ‘a good word’? Isn’t it a totally random chance who wins?”
The waitress shoots me a secretive smile. “It’s a casino, honey. Nothing’s up to chance. I’ll tell the reverend to keep an eye out for you two, okay?”
I look back at Travis, who’s looking at me with those intense blue eyes again. I break his gaze and look down at the brochure. My 25% chance of getting promoted just got a whole lot higher. And all I have to do is marry my stepbrother.
Wait, what am I thinking? I can’t marry Travis. He’d…make it weird……it’d go back to being like it was when we first met…
But then I look down at the brochure again, and realize that I have a choice. I could either go back to complaining about my life, or I could actually do something about it. Right now.
Nina’s face from the party flashes through my mind. Condescending. Controlling.
Fuck it. I take the shot in the middle of the table, grab Travis’ hand, and lead him across the casino floor.
After that…it’s kind of a blur. Before I know it, I’m squeezed into a wedding dress, looking into Travis’ eyes as the reverend tells him he can kiss the bride. We laugh, but then, somehow, our faces get a little too close and Travis brings his mouth onto mine, claiming my lips with a surprisingly powerful kiss. And after that…well, I have no idea what happens. The feeling of Travis’ lips on mine is the last thing I can remember.
Chapter 5: Travis
Before I’m even fully awake, I feel a girl in bed with me. And not just any girl…
A total fucking babe. I can tell by the curves pressed up against my body that whoever ended up in my bed is a serious knockout, and I’m definitely going to have to fuck her brains out again the second she wakes up. I may not remember this girl, but once I’m done with her, she’s never going to fucking forget me.
But the next thing I know, someone’s screaming. I open my eyes and get a serious fucking shock when I see Laney, my stepsister, standing at the foot of my bed in her underwear.
And that’s when yesterday’s events, up to a certain point, come flooding back into my mind. She was at the cocktail party. I took her into the casino. We got drunk, and then, I guess…
“We got married!”
“What the fuck?”
“Look!”
Laney shows me her right hand, which is sporting a seriously expensive diamond ring on it.
I’m quiet for a few seconds, looking at the ring, and then at Laney, and then back at the ring again. Then, I totally burst out laughing.
“Travis!”
“Holy shit, Laney, if you liked me that much, you could have just asked me out.”
Laney tries to give me a look of death, but it just ends up being totally adorable. Especially with her standing there in nothing but her bra and panties. Honestly, it’s a good thing I’m under a blanket, because I’m hard as a fucking rock right now. Hey, maybe I should pull it off. Maybe if Laney sees what her new husband’s packing, she’ll change her mind about this whole marriage thing. Maybe she’d even come back to bed…
“Travis, this is serious! If Dad and Nina find out, they’ll kill us! I’ll probably get fired, and then I’ll be stuck living with Nina for who knows how long!”
Something clicks in Laney’s eyes, and she cocks her head to the side.
“Wait. I think that’s why we got married. It was going to help me move out somehow. We did it to
