walk, but she enjoyed seeing Matt even more. Her knee brushed his as she sat down and heat pulsed through her.
The ride took only a minute since they were already so close. Matt accompanied her into the office and they pored over the papers together. Any issue her lawyer brought up, Matt responded to with ease, and on a few points, he approved changes to the wording to satisfy her lawyer. They were small enough that they just wrote the changes in, then both she and Matt signed the papers.
Matt held out his hand and she shook it. “Congratulations, partner.”
His big hand encompassing hers felt good.
He opened his briefcase and pulled out a check, which he handed to her lawyer. It felt so official now. Matt was her partner. Shouldn’t she feel nervous? Relieved? Maybe even panicky?
In truth, she felt all those things, but they were totally overshadowed by the sense of wonder she had just being near Matt…and knowing they’d be spending a leisurely dinner together, and maybe something more afterward.
Matt smiled as they exited the building and headed for the limo awaiting them on the street. “Now, I’m taking you out to a celebratory dinner.”
They drove across town to an elegant little bistro she’d never been to before.
“So, Kate,” he said after they’d ordered. “Have you thought about my other offer?”
Had she thought about it? She’d hardly thought about anything else. Hot images of him training her filled her days, and those images came to life in her dreams. They’d kept her at a sexual height for days. So much so that she could see herself sliding right under this table and devouring his cock rather than the delectable shrimp cocktail the waiter had just placed in front of her.
“Yes. As I mentioned before, I’m very interested.” God, she couldn’t believe her voice sounded so calm. As if she were talking about a business venture, when in reality they were talking about red hot sizzling sex.
She took a sip of her ice water.
“I just wanted to make sure you hadn’t started to reconsider.”
“Not at all.” She gazed at him with blazing eyes. “When?”
He smiled. “I was hoping we could spend a week together.” His eyes heated as he watched her bite into a plump, juicy shrimp. “I can clear my schedule anytime you like.”
That surprised her, since Matt was a very busy man, with a huge corporation to manage. But then, he had a team of people to depend on. And Matt had always been able to set aside time for her. It seemed that hadn’t changed.
She had also checked her schedule in anticipation of this request. Her team was actually just past the initial stages of their latest project and things were going smoothly.
“I could arrange to get away next week, or if that’s too soon, maybe—”
“Next week would be perfect.” His smile lit his face and she longed to grab his hand and drag him out to the limo where she would proceed to rip his clothes from his very broad, muscular body and devour him.
Over the rest of dinner, he talked about arrangements. The driver would pick her up at her apartment on Friday afternoon. He asked if she could get off a little early so she wouldn’t lose the whole evening traveling. By the time they finished dinner, they had the details sorted out and he talked to her about running a business in a less hectic place than New York and how she had adapted. She carried her end of the conversation, but all she could really think about was what would happen when he dropped her off at her apartment. Would he come up for a drink?
Would he stay the night?
On the ride to her apartment, her heart thundered in anticipation and she couldn’t help glancing at him from time to time, wondering what he was thinking. Their conversation had petered out and they rode mostly in silence. When the driver finally pulled up to her door, she turned to Matt.
“Would you like to come up for a drink?”
“No, I’m afraid not. I’ve got an early meeting in the
