town, so I thought we could spend the day together,”
“ Uh . No. You’re going to spend the day with Mother. She’s been driving me crazy for the past week to get a hold of you,” Lynx’s gorgeous sister stepped up and crossed her arms. To be honest, I thought it a little too early to meet the parents. It’s not like I was exactly wife material. Given that I’m already a wife to someone else...
Lynx pulled me aside and whispered. “Hey, Rory. I know this is a little sudden, but could you come hang with my folks and me. We’ll just pretend we’re a couple. I know it sounds crazy, but she’s been aching to get a litter of tiger cubs since I reached puberty... my mother’s very ill and it would bring some light in her otherwise miserable days.”
This seemed to take our affair to a whole new level that I didn’t want to get involved in.
“If I do this, then once I leave your mom’s house we have to end it. I didn’t expect this to become more of a thing. Than it already has.”
“Ooh, this is going to be so deliciously scandalous...” Desdemona smiled. “Mom’s going to flip when you bring over this plump human.”
Plump? Why I oughta ...
I rolled my eyes.

L ynx’s home looked more like the places I’d seen in New Orleans. The dark emerald green water and the low hanging leaves on the willow trees—just beautiful. It sort of reminded me of being home.
“There’s a few things you need to know when dealing with a pack of weretigers,” Lynx warned me.
I shook my head. “Like what?”
“The leader of the pack is called the Apex. Mothers of the pack are called the Matriarch. My father is Dashel and my Mother is Violetta—”
I heard Desdemona snicker. “She’s hopeless, Lynx. Don’t waste your breath trying to teach a human about the ways of the beast.
Lynx only ignored her. “You’ll do fine...”
I gulped. What does a human say to a group of tigers? I mean is it like meeting anyone else? Lynx knocked on the door and a large man answered. Before the burly man said a word he bent over and sniffed my hair fully. My hair looked like a tousled mess by the time he finished inhaling it. Okay?
“Oh, that’s Caleb...our brother,” Desdemona said rolling her eyes. The three of us entered into the Blackthorn’s quaint seaside home. All of the tigers sat around the table, and I nearly gagged at the smell of blood and uncooked flesh sitting openly on the table.
“God, you’re not expecting me to eat that are you,” I screeched.
Desdemona laughed again. “Yeah, sit at the Matriarch’s table and not eat? I’d like to see you try.”
The dinner table was surrounded by sizziling muscle bound weretigers in their lean and fit human form. A silverfoxed man sat the head of the table next to an older woman who had a majestic beauty about her.
“Who is this guest you have brought over for dinner?”
Lynx nodded to both his Apex and Matriarch, and they nodded back allowing us to sit.
“Go on, introduce yourself Rory,” he told me.
I waved nervously. “Hi all, I’m Rory. I’m a human and I’ve met a wonderful man in your son.”
“Have you knocked this one up yet?” Violetta blurted.
Lynx smacked his forehead.
I felt a little bit put on the spot. So, I just made up a lie. Since that’s already what we were doing anyways.
“Uh, we decided to wait until after the wedding,” I replied.
Everyone around the table looked at me shocked, including Lynx who was just shaking his head. What happened? Did I say something wrong? Violetta smiled at me. And she and Dashel stood up from the table.
“Then it is settled.” Dashel commanded the attention from the rests of the guests. We will have a wedding planned by the end of the summer so that Lynx will finally have his bride and bring a new Apex to our family.”
Holy...
I thought. Then my mind drifted off and I ignored everyone else around the table. This isn’t what I wanted at all. What started as just a guilty fling is
