He had only one member— if he could call his long lost brother that he really didn’t know, family—so he really didn’t need to fuck that up no matter how badly he’d like to.
This was only Seth’s second week there and Daniel had never loathed a person more. But it was time to get to the bottom of this guy, find out what his game was, catch him in a lie, something, because as soon as the wedding was over, he wanted to be ready with valid reasons to tell Seth to get lost and never contact him again. Ever.
“ I’m sorry for the way I talked to you earlier,” Daniel said. It would be the first lie he had such a hard time managing.
    “No, I’m sorry, I should’ve known better . Don’t know what I was thinking, I guess I really wasn’t. I’ll do better.”
Daniel shifted in his chair, a little thrown off by the unexpected consensus. A little annoyed too. He was hoping for confrontation before he delved into his so called brother’s questionable history. It was time to learn if Sofia had made a mistake with him. Daniel hadn’t really thought of it till the shell shock subsided, and now he had a zillion questions along the lines of who the hell are you really?
W ait, when had they supposedly met last? Seth had claimed seven years ago but Daniel was sure that was wrong. He had zero memory of any such thing. And not only did they look nothing alike, they acted nothing alike and Seth had an accent from someplace in the south. The differences were unnerving and Daniel hoped to discover Sofia had made a mistake.
“You know what Seth, I realize I don’t really remember you much. But I’d like to change that, get to know you better, maybe...reminisce?”
More annoyance struck Daniel at seeing the eagerness in Seth’s eyes. In his whole damn stature. “Sure, that sounds like a great idea. Meant to tell you that I visited our old stomping grounds.”
    Daniel tensed. “Which ones?”
“Well just the place where we were raised—before they separated us.”
Daniel thought back to that time and came up with blocks of still images and no feeling attached. The only memory he may have had of his brother was just a brown head of dirty hair, not even a face, along with a body doing or saying nothing. “And you were seven when they…?”
    He nodded. “Think so.”
“And then we met seven years ago?”
Seth shrugged a little, putting a black cowboy boot on his knee. “You were pretty loaded, you may not even remember. It was at that club on the corner of seventh avenue?” He cocked his head, watching Daniel a moment before muttering with another shrug, “I didn’t really expect that you’d remember.”
Shit. Daniel rarely went out but when he did, it was there. And being loaded out of his mind wasn’t unlikely. “ No, I don’t remember.”
Seth chuckled. “Probably a good thing.”
    “Why?”
Seth’s grin was getting annoying. “Let’s just say you really know how to handle the women and it was pissing off all the other men.”
Shit. W hat the hell had he seen him doing? “I can be pretty stupid when I’m wasted.”
“Well you had all the guys envious and some dude got pissed and approached you, not sure what he said but you stood up and knocked him out cold. It was definitely a beautiful punch but it got you bounced right out of the club.” Seth skid his hand through the air with appropriate crash and burn sounds to demonstrate.
Daniel wondered. “How did you know it was me?”
He actually chewed his lower lip like a goddamn woman. “Don’t get pissed, but I’d actually planned on mugging you and when I checked your wallet, I saw your name and a bell went off in my head.” More matching cartoon sounds. “I asked you a few questions to make sure, and when I realized it was you, I put you in a cab.” He winced with one eye, “Okay, I did take a hundred bucks but I’m prepared to work that off.”
Daniel was momentarily speechless with what he was hearing and how weird this guy
