there is no perfume that will keep me from that.” He mocked. I groaned in embarrassment. I couldn’t believe that I let myself become vulnerable to him. Aiden paced around me in silence for a moment, twirling his fingers around my long blonde ponytail, and pausing to stare into my eyes.
“Such vibrant and beautiful blue eyes. I don’t imagine you as a hunter.” He said. I gently removed his hand from my hair.
“Really? How do you see me?” I asked curiously.
“Married and pregnant, possibly with a few mutts of this pack.” I frowned and took a step away from him.
“I’m here because you requested help from the Agency.” I reminded him. Aiden smiled.
“You are all about business I see, very well then.” Aiden answered. He walked over to the fire place and pulled a large white box with a beautiful red ribbon wrapped around elegantly into a bow. He held it out to me.
“A peace offering?” I teased, shaking the box, “Or maybe a bomb?”
“Open it.” He instructed. I walked over to the nearby study desks and sat it down. Slowly pulling the ribbon off, I opened the box to find a long beautiful black gown and a pair of black stilettos. I wasn’t even sure if I could walk in heels anymore. I’ve only worn them during my training.
“You should take a shower,” he suggested, “Vampires are no fan of Wolfs-bane either. It doesn’t affect them they it does with us, but it will annoy them.” I stared at him strangely, still holding the gown in my hands.
“I specifically asked for a female hunter, simply because Vampires are weak to beautiful women—even the dangerous ones.” He said with a wink.
“What?” I questioned, still holding the gown in my hand. Aiden groaned and looked back at me with a heavy frown.
Aiden smirked. “Are all female hunters just as annoying as yourself?”
I tossed the gown on the table and made my way to the door. “I don’t need this shit. Julian can find someone else for you to toy with.” I snapped, heading for the door.
“I need you to meet the problematic Vampire, see him with your own eyes. The Vampires are throwing a ball tonight, and I’ve been personally invited. I won’t go there without protection.” He explained. I froze at the door and turned back to face him.
“Aiden are you insane? You have no idea what they are up to? You were just planning to walk into the lion’s den, hoping that you would walk out unscathed?” Aiden shrugged.
“They have no quarrel with me, and besides the last thing they want is to fight a war with a Werewolf pack with no Alpha.” He reminded.
“Then why the urgent need for help with the Agency? Why the evasive allegiance?” I questioned him. Aiden stared at me blankly.
“They didn’t tell you why you are here?”
“They told me I would get instructions when I arrived.” Aiden laughed.
“I suppose the Agency didn’t think you would accept the job once you realized what you were getting into.” He laughed.
“Please shower and change into something more appropriate. Sarah will assist you and we can chat more about the mission on the way to the ball.” He explained.

Chapter 6

I complied; besides, what choice did I have? I certainly wasn’t going to return to the Agency and let them know that I couldn’t handle a simple task of accompanying Aiden to a ball. After I showered and dressed myself in the gown provided, Sarah assisted me with my hair and makeup.
“There, now you look like a princess.” She said, tossing the mascara on the vanity table. I turned to her, staring at her oddly from the heavy sarcasm in her voice. I wasn’t sure why she was being cold.
“What’s the matter with you?” I asked her.
“Aiden looks at me as if I’m nothing. I should be with him at the ball.” She complained. The sadness was evident on her face. She was in love with Aiden and sadly enough, she was ignorant to the fact that he wouldn’t love her unless she held the scent of his mate.
